Shutter release cable Nikon?

Hi, I want to start taking some long exposure photos, and possibly later putting together a few time lapse videos.
I have an entry level SLR - Nikon D3000, and I was wondering if there's a shutter release cable for it, or could I only use the Nikon ML-L3 Remote Control? - My only concern is that someone has said this on Amazon:

"I bought this for making long exposures in the D90's 'bulb' mode. In this mode, the first click of the button will open the shutter and it will stay open until the second button press. However, for some unknown reason, the shutter will only stay open for a maximum of 30 minutes! I had been hoping to make exposures longer than this and did not realize that one can only do this with the WIRED remote. Seems silly that this remote can't do the same as the wired one and I'll now have to make a second purchase".

Does that mean I would need a wired remote for exposures longer than 30 minutes, or is that just in the case of a D90?

Does the Nikon 55-300mm f/4.5-5.6G ED VR AF-S DX work WELL with the Nikon d5000?

I'm literally a second away from pushing "order" for this lens, but I just wanted to do one last check. Is the zoom acceptable? I love this lens for the price, but I want to make sure its worth all the pennies.

Nikon d3100, 18-105mm, as hobby photographer?

I'm buying my first DSLR.
But I'm not just buying an camera to make family photos with it.
I'm a hobby photographer and have been shooting with point & shoot camera for 2 years.

Is Nikon d3100 with lens 18-105mm (or with kit lens 18-55mm) a good DSLR camera to make great photography. Or should I wait and spend more money on other models?

Nikon D90 for wildlife photography?

I'm buying a new dslr and want to go into wildlife photography because I'm currently doing sports photography.
Do you think that the D90 is good for both wildlife and sports photography? If not then can you recommend a different camera for around the same price that will do both types of photography?
