Beginners shouldn't really start with DSLR's but with compact or bridge cameras…

If you have the budget for it, it's an excellent choice. If you know nothing about cameras and just put it in the fully-automatic mode, you will get a decent image at least 90% of the time. As you learn more about what you are doing, you can grow into the rest of the features available on the camera.
