How to record audio for film?

I'm just beginning in cinematography. I'm using a Nikon D90 and a Sony Handycam HDR. I've recently bought a shot gun mic and I understand it can be plugged directly into whatever camera you're using, but what if the camera doesn't have a mic input? How else can the audio be recorded for professional quality? Can I plug the mic straight into my macbook and record onto Final Cut? Or should the mic be ran through an audio mixer of some sort before going onto the computer, and if so, what kind? What is the most common method for capturing audio on set? Any and all information would be very helpful, thanks!

What are the BEST settings for outdoor soccer game?

I'm a beginner, just recently received this Nikon D3000 camera from my husband. I love taking pictures of my kids playing soccer & softball, but for some odd reason they don't come out to good when indoors. As far as outdoors, its all new to me. Should there be any specific settings to have it on while my child is playing soccer outdoors, cloudy weather? Is sports setting the best way to go?

Also should the VR on the lens be set to on or off?

Nikon D7000 - How to Set Continuous Frame Mode?

I received as a gift the D7000 (a big jump for me) I know it will shoot at continuous frames (up to 6 per second) but for the life of me (I'm a hands on person not a manual reader) can't figure out how to set it to do this. I can only shoot one frame at a time and it is very slow.

Any help would really be appreciated, I was at a dance contest today and would loved to have had it working.still figuring things out on it.

Best lens I can use all the time?

I just bought a Nikon D40X that didn't include a lens. I'm shopping for a couple lenses, and I need help finding what I really NEED
I want one lens that I can use on just a normal day. One where I can take shots with a relatively okay zoom, some close-up capabilities, and a good normal range.
I'm kinda on a budget so under $250 would be nice (if thats even possible:/)
Any recommendations?

Nikon D90 Movie issue?

My Nikon D90 is supposed to be able to shoot for 5 minutes straight before I need to press record again. I'm in the middle of a shoot and my camera has begun to refuse to record for more than 30 seconds. I tried leaving it for half an hour to see if it needed to cool off but that isn't working. What should i do?

Entry level dSLR for low light/action?

I'm looking to get a dSLR that would take action shots in low light-- kids playing indoor soccer, swim meets (indoor pool), basketball games, etc. Of course, I'd use it for other situations as well, but right now, my focus is low light/action.
I currently have the Sony HX1. Which is fine for outside, everyday kind of situations- kids at the park, etc.; but it takes less than optimal low light action shots.
I'd like a camera that would grow with me as I learn about ISO, aperture, etc-- but not one that's got a HUGE learning curve- so much that I'd never figure it out.

There are a lot of options and opinions out there-
I've read that for low light/action shots, it's all about the lens and that the camera body doesn't really matter. Conversely, I've read that both are equally important.

Am I best to buy a "kit" with the camera body and a couple of lenses to start out with?
Realistically- which lenses should I be looking for, considering my main objective?

I'm not necessarily looking to buy the cheapest thing out there, as I know a good camera- one that will meet my current needs and yet grow with me, won't come "cheap". Nor do I want to have to get a 2nd mortgage in order to buy a camera that will take the pics I want to take.

Can I get it all for less than $750? Good camera, a couple of lenses, case, etc?

Are there accessories you would consider NOT optional?

I've looked at the Nikon D3100. The Canon T1i and T2i… As well as the Pentax K-x and K-r. And I'm at a loss. Oh- and HD video isn't a big deal. I don't know that I'd use it.
