What are some favorite settings/shots/lenses using the Nikon d3100?
I have just bought my first DSLR and I'm hoping to get some use out of it mostly for my daughter (due in June) but I want to know some of other peoples favorite waya to use theirs!

i have a nikon d3100 which doesn't have an internal AF motor. I'm under the impression it will AF but it is worryingly low price…

i was just wondering what you guys thought of the pictures, and if you have any tips/ideas?
i use a nikon d5000 with the standard kit lens that came with it. I'm planning on upgrading to a higher quality lens soon.
Added (1).. I get my watermark by adding text in my editing program, then fading it out.
Does your Nikon D90 have problems focusing with third party lenses?
My Nikon D90 has no problems focusing perfectly when I use Nikon lenses, but about 70% of third party lenses I have tried (Sigma 24mm 1.8, Tamron 17-50mm 2.8 and 17-50mm 2.8 VC) either have front or back-focusing problems. My Tamron 70-200mm 2.8 DOES work like a charm though, so thank the lord for that.
Has anybody been having a similar problem? It definitely sounds like the body is off, but then why would all my Nikon lenses be perfect?

Can't seem to decide - I'm looking to take nice indoor portraits OR nice evening portraits (low-light) and hear these lenses are great. Any suggestions are appreciated!

I have not yet decided what to buy. Although these lenses are discontinued, they are still available in my country. I know a little bit about these lenses so I need to have an expert's opinion, like their pros and cons. I have the Nikon D5000. I want to keep a good lens for myself in the long run.

I have a Nikon D40x… Can I make a "professional" portfolio with this camera? Or will my work appear inferior? What are my limitation as far as presenting a finished product with this camera? Controlling the shutter speed on Nikon D60 for light photography?
I want to try to take some light photography (or "painting with light") and I know that you have to set the camera to Manual setting and then set the shutter speed to "bulb". But I would like to be able to take the pictures by myself, and with the bulb option I have to have my finger on the button at all times. Is there a way I can change the settings on my camera so I can press the button to open the shutter, leave the camera without my finger on it, and then go back and press the button again to close the shutter?
