Is it possible to take quality low light pictures with a Nikon D3000?

I have tried taking pictures of musicals, plays, and concerts with moving subjects in low light with my Nikon d3000 and 18-55 mm lens to no real success. What do I need to change this? Different settings? (Tried most of them--sport, night, M with high ISO/exposure settings, etc) Would getting a 55-200 lens help, or do nothing? Also, should I consider getting an external flash to help combat the problem?

Best lens for an amateur, 18-105mm?

- I'm buying the Nikon D7000 - no questions.
- What lens? I'm tossing up between the 18-105mm/18mm-200mm lens.

They are both versatile meaning for a while I won't buy a new lens (I'm an amateur I do not want to purchase another expensive lens yet) so of both which one?

Can someone link me what a lens creep is (image)?
Why is it such a biggie?
What disadvantage for me would it have? Seeing as I'm new.

What lenses to choose as alternative for my Nikon D90?

I'm currently using Tamron AF 28-200mm F/3.8-5.6 LD Aspherical [IF] (Model 571D) which was originally used for my film SLR Nikon F65. With D90, it takes a lot of time to tune in and it always hard to get a good shot from the first shot.
Now I saved a bit to buy a lense, I've got an option to choose from below models
1.AF 18-200mm F/3.5-6.3 XR Di II LD Aspherical [IF] MACRO (Model A14N II) (for Nikon)
2.AF Zoom Nikkor 70-300mm F4-5.6G
3.AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR

I usually take family, kids, travel and nature photography.
Please give a serious advice as I want to buy one lense based on anwers given here.

Thank you!

Added (1). Thank you for your valuable advices. I'll take them into account.
Alternatively, how about AF-S DX VR Zoom-Nikkor 55-200mm f/4-5.6G IF-ED. The only thing I worry about is focus, which higher than my current AF 28-200mm.

Photos of sporting events indoors with a Nikon D60?

I have a nikon D60, and I'm having a tough time taking action shots without any blur? I have tried to increase shutter speed on the shutter priority mode, but then not enough light gets in and the photo is very dark if not black? The shutter speed in the sport mode also just does not seem to be fast enough. I'm photographing wrestling matches? In the Shutter priority mode I also increased the ISO to hi and 1800 but it does not seem to help. Can I increase the F stop/ apature without loosing the fast shutter speed?

Nikon 18-200 mm or 70-300 lens for sports?

I'm looking at upgrading my camera (I currently have a Nikon D50 and want to get a D7000). I currently have a Quantaray (I know it's cheap, but what we could afford) 70-300 lens, a Nikon 18-70mm and a Nikon 50mm fixed lens. I take a lot of pictures of my girls soccer games and just a variety of family pics or food pics for my blog. I'm looking at two different kits (this seems the best way to go for me). One has the Nikon 18-200 lens, and the other has a 70-300 and 18-105. I hate to lose 100mm if it makes a huge difference when shooting sports. I'm just not sure what is the best route for me to go.
