What DSLR camera should an amateur get? I'm thinking along the lines of the Nikon D60?
There are tons of great DSLR cameras out there. Since the Nikon D60 is in the 500-800 dollar range… I would like to recommend the canon T2i. This camera also shoots 1080p Video! It will run you right around 800 dollars and there's an advantage to buying canon over nikon… Nikon believes that they are the best DSLR camera company (in most cases they are) so they use that as a reason to make all of their lenses cost an extra 100 dollars more than a canon, sony, or panasonic lens. I don't know tons about the D60 but most starter DSLR cameras come with the bottom of the line lens in the kit. This means you WILL be buying at least 1 more additional lens (Usually and 18' by 55'). Remember, not only does the T2i shoot 1080p Video, but the Canon lenses are almost always 100 dollars cheaper. The only reason for domeone to buy a Nikon is for the name. So it comes down to this… Do you want to pay extra for the brand or are you ok with the better camera and not as good of a name? Hope this answers your question
Nikon d60 is really really old.
look into a canon 60d or a nikon d7000 instead
The Nikon D3000 is a good beginner camera!
