It's obvious which is less expensive, but which is a better choice? I'm not sure that I'll use a macro lens on my Nikon D60 enough to justify it's purchase… Would filters be suitable or only worth the little money I might pay for them?

So I have to take senior pictures for four girls. And I wanted to know some good lenses that can take good people pictures. I would love a good lens for people. But would like it on the cheap side.

Okay, I'm by no means a professional photographer and am very much new to photography. I have a Nikon D50 and I'd like to take some photos of clothing/people in an indoor space of about 10ft x 8 ft. I'm going to be using two fluorescent lights and some kind of diffuser. I don't want to use strobes because they're too expensive and my skill level begs continuous lighting.
One thing I'm having trouble finding on the internet is information about how strong the lights should be. Any suggestions?

Added (1). I know this will make me sound really stupid but i don't care. The main reason why i don't understand when i read about it is because i don't get what ISO, aperture, and shutter speed is/does.
