So I have to take senior pictures for four girls. And I wanted to know some good lenses that can take good people pictures. I would love a good lens for people. But would like it on the cheap side.

I have a 55-200mm ($225'ish) lens I use with my d5000 - it works well for the cost and takes good pictures with fair bokeh when zoomed out. Might also try nikon 35mm 1.8 kinda need to invade personal space and get close up with that lens but it is great lens and is $150 price range. Not sure what is cheap to you but glass is expensive. Nikon 85mm. 1.8 would be the lens of choice if you can spend over $400

I like the Nikon upgrade D5100 i guess it should use the same lenses. B&H has a great selection of SLR camera lenses at http://www.bhphotovideo.com/...4232860844

I love my Nikon 35mm f/1.8 as it gives you excellent performance in all kinds of lighting without flash. It also can give you beautiful bokeh, where the subject is in sharp focus and the foreground & background are artistically blurred. You'll find it for under $200 easily. I use this lens for NBA action shots under the basket and for portraitwork as well.

The new Nikon 50mm f/1.8 AF-S just came out and has the same attributes, but at a slightly longer focal length. I find it on Amazon and other sites for about $220.

Look through your kit zoom lens at the 35mm & 50mm settings to see which viewpoint meets your needs.

By the way, here's a list of all the lenses that will autofocus and meter perfectly on your D5000.
