Tips for next photography purchase? Lens.etc?

I've been shooting with my canon t2i for about a year and a half now, with a 18-55mm and a 50mm 1.8 lens
(before that i used a nikon d60 with kit lens)
and i'm looking to expand my photography kit and start maybe doing some business so i want some equipment that can produce even bigger quality results (i know its not the camera but the photographer blah blah whatever) i've never been quite good at choosing equipment myself
but i was looking for some suggestions
i like to do mostly
portraits and experimental shoots
fashion
and some landscape and wide angle stuff
i've also realized i could use a flash or an external light source
+ maybe some lens protectors?

could you recommend me some items from all the things i just mentioned? In your opinion?
i could say i'm in a money range but from what i've seen all the good things are over 300 which you know, whatever, just keep it less than 600: d

About how many RAW (.nef) files can I fit on a 16GB SD card at 16.2 megapixels?

I'm shooting with a Nikon D5100 and have decided to switch over to the RAW format because of the increase in picture quality and post-productive options. I need to know how many pictures in RAW will fit on my 16GB SD card so I can gauge whether I need to buy another one.

D3100 and an old flash?

I have a Nikon D3100. Some days ago I found an old flash in the basement. It looks like a black brick, about 6, 5x5x3, 5 ( cm ), has a hot shoe stand but it is really only a bent piece of metal, so no syncing there. Out of the bottom go two cables - One goes into the power connector and the second one is a PC cable. In the front, there's written in red letters: FIL 4IM

So, I heard about these old flashes giving a nice voltage kick to the new cameras through the hot shoe, so I would like to know whether it is the same through a PC cable + PC fem to hot shoe adapter. I also heard that Nikons have higher tolerance to this back voltage than Canons.

So the question is: Would this flash be safe for my camera, when used with a PC-to-hotshoe adapter? Are there any other options?

Thanks.

Added (1). I don't know which one is more powerful, but I can't try off-camera flashing with the onboard flash - that's why I want to try this. Thanks for your answer

Added (2). FIL 4IM is the model name of the flash. But I found no info about it.

Added (3). Caoedhen: The dial is only for info, it does not do anything. There are no batteries, as I wrote, it goes right into 220V AC power plug. And the capacitor works perfectly, it flashes nicely and charges really fast

What dSLR camera and lens to buy?

I'm just starting out with photography as a hobby, so I'm not really sure what I need. I do need a dSLR camera for a class I will be taking, but am not sure what features/lenses I really need, whether extra expenses are worth it for a beginner, etc.

Cameras I'm considering:
Nikon D3100
Canon EOS Rebel T2i
Nikon D5100
Canon EOS 60D

Which brand would you suggest and why? Obviously the top 2 are much cheaper, so is the more expensive of each worth it for a beginner? Also are the kit lenses good enough or would I be better off getting just body and a separate lens? And what size (Or zoom range) lens should I be using? (Canon offers size choices of kit lens. If separate what are some good lens choices?)

I know this is a lot of questions in one, but any advice would help.

Added (1). Ty for the advice. Especially on sensor size, but the D7k is way out of my price range. My budget is only around 800. Maybe up to 1k if the upgrades are really worth it. Obviously if I don't actually need the features for any good reason I would prefer to pay less though.

Nikon D5100 w/ lens kit is only $50 over my budget, but if getting body only with ~ a $200 lens ($100 more than kit lens) would be worth it for whatever reason I'm willing to do that. I really don't know what size lens I need to start out though, and aperture (The listed f/#) just completely confuses me. Would it be bad to get a lens that list a single f/# rather than a range, or is it just listing the maximum? And what aperture should I get?

How to Do Light Painting?

I hopefully plan on getting a Canon Rebel t3i or a Canon EOS 60D, I'm probably as you should say a semi-proffesional as I use my friends professional cameras such as the Nikon D90. But now since I'm getting my own and don't have to bug them to use it, how can I do photography such as Light Painting? Http://www.toxel.com/inspiration/2009/01/08/20-beautiful-examples-of-light-graffiti/

I want to know like how to do it, without getting in the shot, as you can see the link I gave above like my example I'm really trying to figure out is ( singer photo) how can i make a man like that and do so many with so many lines and such or (binder) like do you start painting then turn off the light and do it again?

Which camera/dslr/slr to get? Beginner here?

I'm completely UN-knowledgeable when it comes to DSLR/SLR or cameras of some sort, but I'm planning on getting a camera on christmas. Nikon or Canon are the top/most recommended ones, right? Okay so um one that's easy to use/easy to learn how to use. I'm not planning to be a photographer or something, just one to use with friends and yeah. Oh, and somehow affordable? Has to be around 25, 000-35, 00 Philippine pesos?

P.S.
I've heard little about the Nikon D40, D50, D80, Canon 550D and Canon 7D

I'm hoping to buy this Raynox DCR-250 Macro Attachment
http://www.amazon.co.uk/...000A1SZ2Y/
but i'm wondering if it will fit on my Nikon D3100 with its AF-S Nikkor 18-55mm VR Lens which has a filter size of 52mm and i also have a Tamron AF 70-300mm lens which has a filter size of 62mm.
people say i need an adapter for this attachment to work.
if i do need an adapter could you please suggest which one or 2? (for both lenses) i need.
