What are good lenses for Nikon D3000?

I have the normal size lense for my nikon that it came with… And i want to get a better zooming one… I want to be able to take good pictures of portraits but also sports like wrestling and softball. I'm not too smart about the lenses so i need it broken down to simple terms please I also don't know about being able to use other lenses besides nikons and what not. Are they all the same sizes and fit right? Orrr?

What's a camera similar to the nikon d3100 but cheaper?

My uncle has the nikon d3100 and I love it. Over the holidays I took about 400 pictures and I really enjoyed it. I found that many of my pictures were great even though I was an amateur and I got better the more I took. But I can't afford this camera. I want to know if there's anything really similar but much cheaper!

How to adjust my Nikon D40 Shutter Speed beyond 30 seconds?

I want to set my D40 up on a tripod to do night photography of star trails. When I put the D40 in Manual mode, adjust my aperture and ISO, I can only adjust my shutter speed up to 30 seconds. Anything past and it says "BULB." How can I adjust my camera's shutter to remain open for 30 minutes or even an hour?

NOTE: I'm currently adjusting my settings while indoors before I take it outside.

I dropped my camera into the water

So, the other day, i dropped my nikon D90 into the water. I took it home and put in a box full of desicants. This morning, I put the battery in and found out that the LCD works. But my dad told me not to snap a photo because it could still short-circuit the camera even though the LCD works. Is that true!

Added (1). STOP TELLING ME ABOUT THE NECKSTRAP. I did use it. I FELL into the water. You can go back and read my previous question. Obviously you did not read my previous question. I was in a hurry when I was typing this question. That is why I did not type about falling into the water.

Nikon 35mm f1.8 vs Nikon 50mm f1.8?

I'm going to buy the Nikon D5100 soon and I would like to know which lens would be a better fit for me.

I usually take photos at a youth center and take pics of events and what not, the venue used to be a wedding wall and the lighting is really bad (the reason why i want an f1.8). I also like to take landscape shots and I do a lot of portrait photography of my friends.

I'm falling towards the 35mm but I want everyone's advice before I make the final decision.

Added (1). Wedding hall* sorry typo there

My Nikon D3100 is having issues with taking pictures?

It will only take pictures if it is zoomed all the way out and the focus isn't close. It makes a sound that's hard to explain. It sounds like. VHS tapes rewinding. It squeaks almost. This is my first SLR camera and I'm sorry if this is a stupid question that I should be able to fix. Is this some sort of setting that I screwed up? If I can't fix it, it is going back to Best Buy so they can. Any help is appreciated.

Added (1). The object is across the room. 7-8 feet.

Added (2). It won't focus or take a picture when it is zoomed in all the way. I have only had it for 2 months. And when I got it, it worked perfectly fine. Which is the reason I think that it's not me. I'm still learning though. And I'm trying. This is all just really confusing to me.

What should i put the image size setting on in order to get nice pic, not take a lot of space, easy to download, but also get a good clear resolution picture when i want to print.

Am I going to regret buying this camera?

Well recently I really I've been really interested in photography and I planned on getting the nikon d3100 which is around 600.

Anyways, I'm sacred that I'm not going to like it and just stop using after a couple of months.

If I get this it will be the only gift I will be able to get and if I don't get it I will be able to get a ton of other stuff. (like gift cards to stores, makeup, and stuff like that)

Which one do you think would be better?
