Nikon D3100, zooming qualtiy?
I plan on buying this camera, but it only says 3X optical zoom. I have a Kodak Easyshare that has a 3X optical zoom.
Still worth a buy?
Explain anyone?
Optical zoom and DSLR lens zoom is not comparable. The lens that typically comes with the D3100 is an 18-55. Nikon makes tons of lenses that have 3X zoom, but at different focal lengths - examples - 70-200, 17-55 2.8, 18-55. Tons of lenses have the equivalent of "2X" and "4X" etcetera etcetera…
The Nikon D3100 is a DSLR you can change the lens on it, 3X is the zoom range of the 'kit' lens.
There are very good image quality reasons for not using wide range zooms with these cameras with a larger sensor.
The d3100 allows you to change the lens on the camera. And each lens will have a different zoom, some may have no zoom and the 18-55mm will have the 3X zoom (Thats the standard lens). Its a great camera!
3X optical zoom shouldn't be any of your worries… The lens you are using is what you need to worry about. The kit lens that comes with the D3100 is a 18mm-55mm lens which is okay to get decent shots of wide angles and portraits. If you want more of a zoom I recommend you get the camera with a 18-135mm VR (vibration Reduction) this is the best lens for zoom and everyday use with a cheap budget.
No, not worth it in your case.
DON'T buy it.
You obviously have no idea what you are doing and will be totally wasting your money on what will in effect be a fashion accessory.
Before you go and waste money on a dslr it would be helpful to you to learn a little about photography for one thing and the different types of camera for another.
