Entry level DSLR for HIGH quality photos?
I'm looking for an entry level DSLR camera to have excellent photos.
I may not use videos that much.
My preference is to get excellent and detailed snaps.
From my research i noted that Nikon D3100 is the best entry level DSLR available.
Is this better than Nikon D5100 or any other Canon DSLRs.
As I said, I'm looking for HIGH quality photos not video recording.
Please share your opinion.
Thanks in advance.
Added (1). In addition, my budget is less than $700.

So hi everyone! I'm really hopeful that someone can reasonably answer my question. I'm a little amateur photographer over here, and thought about getting myself my own camera. No, I'm lying. My parents will purchase it for my birthday, hopefully of course. I would prefer good pictures. But not interested in video that much. I was thinking something between Canon and Nikon, not a very expensive model. Around $500-700. Maybe a Nikon D3000 or D31000? Oh yes, and I have read forums recently and it was often mentioned that lenses are important. So, which would be best for these?

I absolutely love photography but I've only used an iPhone 4, and just some small simple digital cameras. So my question is would I enjoy the Nikon d3100? Is it a good entry level camera?

What's a camera protector case?
I mean, I have a Nikon D3100 and want to hook it up to a fig rig to shoot some longboarding, but if I accidently fall down on my longboard going over 20 mph, I don't want my camera to be ruined. So, is there a case that protects the whole case except for the lens? Kind of like an iPhone case, except for DSLR's?

Would the NikonD5000 be the right camera for me?
So, this christmas I'm getting the Macbook Pro 13 inch. Right now I have a lenovo laptop from 2009, so this is a big step up! Once I get the Macbook pro, I'm going to make videos on youtube (like music videos) so I want to get a nice camera from the money I make on youtube. I'm pretty good with technology, and I learn very quickly. Although, I don't want a camera that is so complicated to get videos from the camera onto my computer. I'm pretty sure that this is the camera for me.http://www.nikonusa.com/Nikon-Products/Product/Digital-SLR-Cameras/25452/D5000.html can you tell me more about it? And if you think its the right one for me?

What other name brand lenses can I use on my Nikon D5100?
I just recently bought a Nikon D5100. I was just wonderingwhat other name brand company lenses may I be able to use besides the name brand Nikon. Reason I'm asking is due to the fact that I use to own a Minolta MAXXUM SPxi and have 3 different lenses. Which are: Minolta AF 35-80, Phoenix 19-35mm 1:3.5 -4.5 AF Zoom, and a Sigma DL Zoom 75-300mm 1:4 - 5.6. I tried looking online but had no luck. Please let me know cause it would be great if I can use the Phoenix & Sigma lenses on my Nikon!

How much time does a Nikon d3100 need to charge for the first time?
I have just bought a Nikon d3100, but I don't know how much I time I have to charge it for the first time?

Help?
Added (1). Yes, to answer that question, I do understand cameras rather well. I currently have the Canon T3 and before that I had the canon XS, and I'm being asked by a friend which would be the best to purchase, the T3 or the D3000 (or I suppose the D3100). I'm just wondering because I love Canons and I know from personal experience that they make great DSLRs but I have also heard good things about the Nikons so I was trying to get some knowledge about them.
Please excuse the short question I was just in a rush. Sorry.

My camera is taking dark pictures?
I dropped my D3100 Nikon camera the other day and now when i look through the camera hole it is almost solid black. It is also blurry. You can see things just barley. It also says "press shutter, release button again." I yellow letters (When you look through the camera hole) it says iso auto 900.
