Canon T3 or Nikon D3000?

Added (1). Yes, to answer that question, I do understand cameras rather well. I currently have the Canon T3 and before that I had the canon XS, and I'm being asked by a friend which would be the best to purchase, the T3 or the D3000 (or I suppose the D3100). I'm just wondering because I love Canons and I know from personal experience that they make great DSLRs but I have also heard good things about the Nikons so I was trying to get some knowledge about them.

Such a short question. Do you understand these cameras, the jargon and their point?

D3000 competes with Canon EOS XS, both are 2-3 years old. The T3 is a few months old and competes with D3100, so it would be the best option.
