In which mode, from what angle is it best to shoot?

Basically I want to create dreamy looking photos
(like those of Anastasia Volkova / link: )
I've read a lot and learned that a 50-mm lens is best for this style. Right now I can't get a 50-mm lens so I have to work with my 18-105 mm one and Nikon d5100.
Any tips?
AND also, I want to create a lens flare, or just place my object so the sun is behind them (meaning my camera is facing the sun) what mode, angle is best to shoot with so my object doesn't turn into a faceless silhouette?

Which is the better deal on the Nikon D5100?

Hi! I'm looking into purchasing a D5100, primarily because I'm going to be doing extensive traveling in the next year and I want to be able to take nature/landscape shots.

Anyways, Best Buy is offering the D5100 for 650 with an 18-55 mm lens. They are also offering it for 800 with a 55-200 mm lens.

http://www.bestbuy.com/...ies&ks=960

On the other hand, Costco is offering it for 900 WITH a 4gb sd card, a camera case, camera guides, an 18-55mm lens AND a 55-300 mm lens.

http://www.costco.com/...InCategory

It's hard for me to decide, simply because I'm not as familiar with lenses as I should be. I've done some research on the matter, but I would LOVE extra opinions.

My much loved Nikon D40 has died after 5 Years. Which camera is a worthy replacement?

I looked at the D3100 as the obvious Choice in a Camera shop (As stocks are still available) . However I feel like Nikon has "Scrimped" on the camera body build quality over the Nikon D40. For example the OK button in the middle seems loose and the body in general seems to be more "Creaky"
I do not need gimmicks like 24MP (Nikon D3200) Or a rear screen that spins around (Nikon D5100)
I can't justify spending around £800 for a D7000 body. So which camera can I buy to replace my Much loved D40 which has finally died this week.
(R.I.P Sam 2007-2012) My D40 was called Sam LOL. It is a man thing ladies you would not understand.

Nikon D5100 w/ SB-600 Speedlight (Off Camera Flash)?

Hi. I have been taking pictures for years but I'm new to using external flash. I have a Nikon D5100.Is there a way to use my SB-600 as a slave / off-camera flash, wirelessly? Also, is there a way to trigger the SB-600 off-camera, without using the built-in flash on my D5100 (because when I take portrait I stand fairly close to my subject, I want to put my SB-600 off-camera at the back of the subject to light up the hair color, but not using built-in flash to avoid the face from looking washed out).

What settings should I use for outdoor newborn photography?

Slowly dabbling in all types of photography--
I plan on doing newborn photography outdoors soon (Nikon d3000) around 6-7pm so I can use natural lighting. I'm just curious as to what settings work the best to get a crisp photo that isn't too light or too dark.

Added (1). I have basic lenses and 55-300mm. I'm "new" to photography in some ways--still learning (obviously lol) But am helping friends and family with photos.

Nikkor 55-200 mm vr lens?

I just bought the nikkor 55-200mm lens and I wanted to know if the noise the VR makes is normal? Its like a screeching sound, kind of like a dog whistle and it only goes on when i have the VR on. I'm using the lens on my d3100.
