My much loved Nikon D40 has died after 5 Years. Which camera is a worthy replacement?
I looked at the D3100 as the obvious Choice in a Camera shop (As stocks are still available) . However I feel like Nikon has "Scrimped" on the camera body build quality over the Nikon D40. For example the OK button in the middle seems loose and the body in general seems to be more "Creaky"
I do not need gimmicks like 24MP (Nikon D3200) Or a rear screen that spins around (Nikon D5100)
I can't justify spending around £800 for a D7000 body. So which camera can I buy to replace my Much loved D40 which has finally died this week.
(R.I.P Sam 2007-2012) My D40 was called Sam LOL. It is a man thing ladies you would not understand.
May its possible to Replace your Nikon D40. But if it totally damaged the no warranty of this.
Perhaps something like the D5100.It has the same performance as the D7000, but not as well-built.
you can also look at getting a D90, used or new, depending on your budget.
Either the D90 or another D40 - if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
If the D7000 is not viable, get a D90 instead. It's currently available at very attractive prices and still a good camera.

Getting the version with the 18-105mm lens seems to be reasonable, but if you're already well supplied with lenses, then body only would be a sensible choice.
I'd prefer my D90 over a D5100 any day, the two dials and top LCD are convenience features that i just wouldn't want to miss anymore.
