Nikon D90 self timer with intervals?

I have a Nikon D90 but I can't figure out the self timer function! Well I can use the self timer but I'm not very happy with the results. When I use the self timer it lets me set the camera delay time and then the number of shots. So when I snap a picture it goes

Timer delay --> shot-shot-shot in rapid burst mode, I don't want this at all!

I want to have intervals between my shots like this

Timer delay---> shot->interval->shot-> interval->shot

My point and shoot Samsung TL205 has both burst shooting and timed interval shooting so what the deal with the D90? </3

Added (1). Why thank you for the fast answer =D
I just have a small project I would like to do with interval timing and wanted to use my D90 over my samsung but even if the D90 doesn't have interval timing I'm pretty happy with it, it will just have to sit this one out.

Added (2). EDIT:
I think i figured out how to solve my problem and still use my D90

Its not self timed but at least I can trigger the shutter from a distance which was the reason I was looking into self timed intervals.

Best Beginner Camera?

I want to get more into photography, and I enjoy videos.
Is there a GOOD beginner camera under $500?
I really enjoy taking pictures- it's my passion. Help please? I can't afford a really expensive camera. I just need a good quality camera with nice settings. I know most of them are $500 and up though. I'm really looking into the Nikon d3100. Any other options?

Would this lens be a good fit for me?

I have a Nikon D3100. Currently, I use my camera to take portraits of people/families in outdoor settings. Is this a good option for me? If not, what would other choices be that are comparable in price? Thank you!

Which DSLR camera to choose?

It's either the Nikon D3100 from costco which comes with the standard 18-55mm VR Lens AND another 55-200mm VR Lens in addition to a bag, sd card, and guide books. Then there's the Nikon d5100 pack http://www.adorama.com/...100KA.html, it comes with the bag, sd card, and starter lens, an extra battery, but no extra lens. They are both $650ish, and I know the D5100 is better, but the D3100 comes with an extra lens. Thoughts?

New YN-560 speedlight on Nikon D80?

First off, I'm new to flash photography. I'm pretty familiar and comfortable with my camera, and I recently decided to take things to the next level and buy my first external flash. I decided on the YN-560 since the price was right ($70 after shipping and handling). I understood that I was buying a totally manual flash without any TTL technology. I figured that I'd at least learn to adjust the flash manually without my camera doing it for me. The flash arrived in perfect condition and works with the test button… Only one simple question… How the heck do I get it to fire with my camera once it's on the hotshoe? Or is it supposed to do it on it's own? I'm guessing there's a setting in the camera menu that I need to change, but I haven't had any luck with an Internet search. Also, the manual is in translated Engrish. I'd really appreciate some help, I've tinkered a bit in my menu and haven't found anything yet. Any ideas?
