Tips for photographing indoor volleyball game?

I was assigned to take photos of a volleyball game at my college. It was held indoors in the gym with florescent lights. I had some trouble with this because everything moves so fast and the lighting situation is less than ideal. I didn't use flash because it was considered distracting. I tried many shooting modes, in shutter priority and in program, but I just couldn't seem to get it right. The photos turned out dark and blurry. I know I need a faster shutter speed, but it wasn't possible with the low light. All I could think of was to bump up the ISO, but that made my images very grainy. I got a few decent shots that I'm able to use, but I was disappointed in most of the other ones.

I have a Nikon D80 camera. I'm still learning about photography, so any advice for handling this tricky situation would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

What are the best lenses for portrait shooting?

It's for my girlfriend. She has a nikon d5000. I believe she already has a… 15-200mm and a macro lens. She's starting to get offers to take portraits. I wanted to get her a lens for out door portrait shots.
One that'll give great quality; sharpness, clear, etc.

Buy a Nikon d5000 body and buy lenses separately?

I'm looking at buying a nikon d5000. I'm mostly keen on a nikkor f1.8 35 mm lens to compliment the camera (image quality). The bundled kit lenses seem failrly basic.
Is it better value to do it this way ie, buy the camera body, get a decent 50mm lens and buy a telephoto lens separately? Cheers

Nikons repair policy

I bought a Nikon d5000 not over 3 months ago, and it just recently stopped working properly. The automatic zoom no longer works. I was super bummed. I bought the camera online at a large retail office. It was BJ's or something like that. It came brand new, and inside is a one year warrentee. I'm not sure if I'm eligable to return the camera for replacement even if I bought it from a non nikon store. I wanted to get some insight before I contacted Nikon. Any advice or ideas would be greatly appreciated!

External Wireless Microphone for Nikon D90?

Yes probably all of you would say there can't be external mic

or half of you would say zoom h2.

But neither of them would fill my need.
Is there any wireless microphone that records the audio to somewhere. Like zoom h2, But the recorder and mic is wireless.

Does my D5000 have a problem?

I have a Nikon D5000, and I've been using it for just over a year now. I love to take long exposures at night, and I've noticed that the saving time is quite ridiculously long. I thought this was just the property of an entry DSLR but my friend pointed out that that was not normal.

For example, if i take a 2" shot it might save for anywhere from 1.5s to 3s. It really shows when I take 20" and they save for 20-30s.

I've tried multiple SDHC cards and the problem persists.

Thanks!

Added (1). UPDATE: Sorry I wasn't clear about it, I've turned off both Long Exposure NR and High ISO NR for the test. /

I have shortlisted Nikon D40, Nikon D90 & Nikon D5000. I'm an armature photographer who wants to move from my Fuji FinePIX S1500 to a full DSLR.
Please suggest which one should be a good camera.
