Looking for a good brand for a digital camera?

I don't plan to spend over 100$ for this camera.
I had Kodak digital cameras before but I heard their new cameras are not that great.
What brand do you recommend? I've heard of Nikon, Canon and Olympus are good.
How high should I go for megapixels? Should I stay between 12-14?
Looking for a camera that can take great pictures in any type of lighting and also that can take videos.
I've heard of ISO performance? What is it? I heard it ranges from 100 to 3200. What number should my camera have to make sure it provides good quality pictures?

Photo Editing Software? - 1

I'm looking for suggestions for free or cheap photo editing software. I have RAW NEF files from a Nikon and am trying to use View NX2 but it takes almost 10 minutes PER PICTURE to edit/save - this is unreasonable! View NX won't load the NEF file - I get a message that NEF files are unsupported. Photoshop keeps freezing, Bibble works, but saves the NEF files as JPEG at the same MB as the NEF and 14MB+ is too large to upload online. When I save it this way and use the converter from View NX2 it compresses to about 10MB which is still too large. View NX2 editing the JPEG photos works well, but takes a 4MB picture and compresses it to 1MB or less --- so am I missing something with one of the programs or does anyone recommend a photo editing software that actually works? I've got about 400 pictures, NEF files that need to be edited - but it's going to take a month using View NX2 and I can't find anything else that works. Suggestions or advice would be helpful!
BTW, I'm using a Toshiba laptop, 3 years old, 2.2GHz processor, 2GB ram. I don't have the money to get a new laptop or pay mega bucks for software - but there's got to be something that works!

Added (1). I'm also using Vista and I need the files after editing and converting to be around 5 Mb.

Recommendations on a good SLR camera?

How's it going guys. I'm currently in the process of looking for a good DSLR to get started with. I've had my eye on the Canon Rebel T4i for a long time now and I've played with it a couple times and I really like the camera. At this point I've pretty much ruled Nikon out as a possibility, just because personally I just don't like using them. But, now I've also thought about Pentax. Unfortunately I don't know nearly as much about Pentax and information doesn't seem to be as readily available for it, so I was wondering if anyone could just tell me how Pentax stacks up against the bigger, more well known names.

Are there two different lens mounting types like with Canon and Nikon?
Is image stabilization built into the body or the lens?
Durability?
Lens quality?
Ease of use?
Room to upgrade? If I buy this camera now and buy nice lenses for it then are there higher performing Pentax cameras to get later?

And whatever else y'all might deem as helpful! Thanks a lot guys! I'll really appreciate it!

Added (1). Also, if there are any other brands y'all might recommend, please tell me about them and let me know why!

Fisheye lens for pentax kr?

I'd really like to get a fisheye lens for my pentax kr, and I'm looking for the cheapest one possible, but I don't know the best options as a lot of them are for canon or nikon. I also don't really want to get a filter as I've heard the disrupt the colour quite a bit. Any suggestions?

What are some good affordable cameras? (under $200)?

Preferably not even $200, but that's my cap. I've had two digital cameras in the past, and both of them just did NOT cut it at all for me! They were both under or around $100 though (they might have been on sale though) One of them was a Nikon and the other was a Kodak and I found that they took really orange looking pictures indoors and overexposed pictures outside. The quality of the pictures just was not impressive in any way. I'm in a photography class and I use someone else's camera because I hate mine. I Really want a photography camera (ya know, one of those bulky black ones with the huge lenses) Not only do they look 10x cooler, but I feel like they probably take better pictures.

I've NEVER been able to take good pictures and so I want a cool camera to inspire me to really take some awesome pictures in photography class and to start scrapbooking. I've always wanted to be that person always carrying their camera around and taking funky pictures but I just can't find a good camera for a good price!
