Macro Photography lenses?

I just bought a Nikon 85mm macro lens. (AF-S DX Micro Nikkor 85mm f/3.5G ED VR). The lens works great but I have one question about the focus ring. Once the lens reaches its maximum or minimum focus the ring can still be turned. You can feel when the focus ring maxes out but it still turns after that. Its very smooth so I wonder if there's some kind of damper on the focus ring or maybe a safety. The auto focus motor works fine and its virtually silent. Its also the fastest focus motor I've ever worked with. The instructions don't say anything about this and I couldn't find anything on the internet. Its my first Macro lens so I have no idea.

Added (1). Thanks but I still want to know about the focus ring. Is it supposed to stop once you reach the maximum or minimum focus. Or is it supposed to continue moving. The focus rings on all my other lens stop once you reach the maximum or minimum focus. I want to know if its some kind of damper or safety.

What DSLR gear for 1.200$?

I'm a novice photographer (been shooting for 4 years) and have just started shooting weddings and births. I need a fast lens but have a limited budget.

I would love to get an N series Nikon but the prices are a little high so I thought maybe I can go for Sigma or Tamron.

Since wedding photography is about details and sharpness I thought I would need a tele lens. Which would also give me great bokeh.

So a 70-200mm f/2, 8 lens kicks in.

However this lens doesn't have macro capability which I might also need for shooting rings etc.

So here I think about the Nikon 105mm f/2, 8

But this lens scares me because its a fixed focal length which might not be very useful

They say that the 24-70 f/2, 8' s are also sharp.

Well as you can tell I'm all confused.

To cut a long story short, I'm interested in;

Sigma 24-70 f/2, 8
Sigma 70-200 f/2, 8
Tamron 70-200 f/2, 8
Nikon 105 f/2, 8

I also have a manuel flash but wouldn't mind a TTL.

So questions are:

1)Do you think I should get 24-70 and a SB700
2) get a 70-200 f/2, 8…
3)If I should get the 70-200, should it be the Sigma or the Tamron?
4)Or should I get the Nikon 105mm f/2, 8?
5)Would you suggest any other lens instead of these?

Are the Nikkor prime D lenses worse than the G?

I know they're older, mostly manual and have an aperture thing on the lens, but as for image quality, build quality, elements, and stuff like that? Better or worse?

Why is the Nikkor 35mm f/1.4 way, way bigger than the Nikkor 35mm f/1.8 (DX)?

Like, is the 1.4 hole way, way bigger than the 1.8 hole that you need to have a larger lens construction? Or is it because it works on FX with a different sensor?

More of a technical question on schematics than for general-use photography.

What are the aperture details of my AF-S Nikkor 18-70mm 1:3.5-4.5G DX lens?

Hi. I'm a bit confused about this. I read that if my zoom lens only says something like 1:2.8f, then it can open all the way to an aperture of 2.8f throughout its whole zoom range, and that also means that it would be an expensive zoom lens. But what does it mean when the AF-S Nikkor 18-70mm 1:3.5-4.5G ED DX zoom lens says "1:3.5-4.5G"? What does the 4.5G mean here?

Also, when in Aperture Priority mode using this lens, I can close all the way to f22 if I'm zoomed out to 18mm, and all the way to f29 if I'm zoomed in to 70mm, how are those aperture numbers determined? And what "safe" maximum apertures would you recommend for this lens when photographing landscape and wanting to maximize sharpness?
