A look for a good photography camera anybody?

Okay, well the last post I need to add to it. I'm looking for a good camera to start with because I recently broke mine, and returned the Nikon D3100, like I said before. I have a budget of $518, and I want a camcorder. That's is probably the main reason why I returned the Nikon D3100. Nikon or a Cannon? EBay, or whatever. This was supposed to be a birthday present (from my own money.) now it is a Christmaaas. Please, I need to know before Christmas!

I have a nikon d60. I was at my sisters divemeet which was indoors and i had no idea what to do on my camera. I want it to be a goid picture and not look ahaky. Is this possible? If so how do you do it?

Nikon 70-300mm lens for a D60 doesn't auto focus?

Ok so I heard that the 70-300mm lens for NIKON doesn't focus for a model D60.
Is that true?

and can i still somehow focus to my subject while zooming in with that lens with a D60?

Why are all the auto/scene modes apertures set to 3.5?

and i was wondering why i can't change the aperture out side the A mode.
and why it it set to the smalled F-STOP.

I want to get a wide-angle lens?

I'm interested in purchasing my third lens-I have a 35mm and a 60mm currently-I now would like a wide-angle. Nothing too expensive. My budget is around $400. I haven't bought a third party brand but I'm completely open to good ones that are inexpensive.

Also the main reason i want this camera is because it does depth of field and i have lenses that also work for nikon cameras and do dof. Is there possibly an alternative that can do this? Please answer the above before answering this.
