How to leave my shutter open on my Nikon D3000?
I want to get that cool trailing effect from lights. I want to get into night life photography for spotting at raves and clubs. I really don't know much about my d3000 at all. Just got it about a week ago although I have been reading alot. Does anyone know how to get the shutter effect?
And if you have any good tips on night life photography it would be more than appreciated.
Added (1). Or I guess it is also called a long exposure.

I have a MacBook Pro, a SDHC card and a Nikon d5000
My old camera is the Kodak z915
Okay, so what I'd been doing is putting my pictures in iPhoto, editing them, then putting them back on the SD card.
Worked great!
But then I got my new camera and I tried to do the same thing, the camera won't show that their there in playback.
I put the SD card into my TV and it showed that they were there and worked fine, same thing with my computer and iPhoto.
Is it just the camera not reading them?

I'm thinking about getting the Nikon D3100, which is a DSLR that is capable of recording videos. I'm going to try to film beauty videos for Youtube which will include focusing on different products and its parts (color of it, name of it, etc.) I was wondering which focus is better for those videos: autofocus or manual focus?
I would use autofocus in these videos, but I saw in sample videos on Youtube that it creates a noise when pressing the shutter button to focus. Does the sound go away if you put the camera on a tripod or flat surface?
I'm not sure how manual focus will work in videos because I haven't tried it out yet. Explain?

Nikon lens 50mm 1.8 or 35mm 1.8?
I just got the 50mm 1.8 for Christmas. Now, that i'm playing with it and reading about it a lot of people would rather use the 35mm. I have a D3000 and the 50mm does not auto focus, but I would mainly use it to do portraits. I have 2 other lenses 18-55m and 55-200mm, which don't give me sharp clear images, thats why I wanted the 50mm. Which would you recommend?

Canon Rebel XS vs Nikon D3000?
Which is the better sports camera? Both camera Kits are on sale and I have been wanting one. I take pics of Horses running, jumping, bucking, rearing etc. I also take pictures in the evening and during the day. Indoor and outdoor. The Canon kit has an EF-S 18-55 mm f/3.5-5.6 IS lens, 2 GB memory card, Bag, and all the cords. The Nikon kit has a 18-55mm Lens (Non VR), Nikon Camera Bag, 2GB Memory Card and all the cords. Both also come with instruction packets. I'm 15. I'm very familiar with Camera's, though I have never used a DSLR aside from My High school yearbook sponsor(I'm on the Yearbook staff and am one of the few that she allows to handle the camera). I will learn to use whichever camera I get. I hopefully will be able to get different lenses in the near future. Which camera would be better for me? I want clear, crisp pictures of the horses(no blurred feet or heads) at any time of day.

Nikon D3000 and 50mm 1.8 lens? - 1
I received a new lens for Christmas. The Nikkor 50mm 1.8 lens. I knew from beginning it wasn't going to auto focus with my camera. But, I've turned on the manual focusing bar and it is not accurate.Am I doing something wrong? Basically I'm having trouble getting my pictures to look nice and clear. Any suggestions would be wonderful.
