Trust me you don't want a display model - you really, really don't. Who knows how they've been handled and by how many. How have they been treated? There are simply too many pitfalls to buying anything display model - you could regret your decision so just don't. Buy only new.

They won't sell a display model unless the are a discontinued model. And like the previous post you have no idea how it has been handled in the store

Do not buy a display model camera. You don't know how it's been touched (Some people are extremely rough with those cameras and try to wrench up the flash, touch the open part of the lens, smudge their fingers over the screen), and some have been dented and dinged from having being dropped by the security cord against the wall, side of the holding cabinet, etc. I wouldn't personally advise buying a DSLR camera especially, from Best Buy. They overprice their electronics without a lot of kit additionals. Look around on eBay or Amazon, you can get really great deals on cameras and corresponding lens.

Don't bother. I'd wait for a year and two and get a used one then on craigslist (definitely not a display model).

Either that, or get the cheaper Nikon D90 which is also a great camera.

There's no difference in quality for a given brand and model from different retailers. The manufacturer will often sell an item at full list price and allow their dealerships to set their own prices at a profit margin that they are comfortable with. A manufacturer wouldn't have a dealership network for long if they competed against their dealers by undercutting them.

When I owned a manufacturing business my dealer pricing was typically 30-50% below list depending on the item and volume. Margins on consumer electronics tend to be somewhat less. Margins on accessories tend to be more.
