I have recently got a canon eos rebel ti 35mm and just now a Nikon D3100. Today i picked up a Promaster FTD-5600 Dedicated Flash at a used store for $15 and it seems to work fine with both. Being new with photography is there any issue with using this with a digital camera etc. Also any tips for using the flash unit would be much appreciated.

When should you upgrade your DSLR?

I have the Nikon D3000, and I'm starting to see some limitations with it. But I'm not entirely sure this is the cameras fault. For example, I take a lot of pictures outside at night, or indoors low light. In both of these cases, the picture comes out dark or grainy, and I have to edit it with a program. The camera can be very slow at taking pictures and focusing in the dark. But I'm still also using just the stock lens. I'm thinking I can get some better pictures if I use a 50mm prime lens (for both low-light and portrait), and get a better flash (like the SB-400).

Also, I almost exclusively use the camera in auto mode, and sometimes I use one of the other configured modes (like portrait, landscape, etc… ), and not any of the priority modes.

Would an upgrade be recommended, or would it be better to try out different lenses and flashes, and learn more about the priority modes first? I think my pictures come out in great quality, but I've seen pictures that looked much nicer (from much nicer cameras, like the D7000).

Is there a difference in quality between Nikon 50mm 1.8 AF and Nikon 50mm 1.8 AI-S?

I know the AF lens has autofocus and it uses more recent technology. The AI-S one is part of the E series which is from the 70s and it seems like the same lens but a whole lot cheaper. My nikon d3100 does not support autofocus for this lens so the autofocus function is really irrelevant.

Photographing a black horse?

I'm an avid photographer and have recently been blessed with having my mare in my "backyard". Well now that I have the time and convience of her location I would like to start getting some really good photographs of her. But there's one problem. She's completely black and you can't see her features at all in the pictures. I would like some tips if any of y'all have camera or horse photography experience? Also, I use a Nikon D60 if that helps.

I need some photography assistance

I have a Nikon D80 DSLR camera. I'm shooting a men's basketball game tonight and need to know the best settings for my camera. I shot at a game last night and tried several things but didn't get good shots. I tried the sports mode but all my shots ended up with the movement blurred. I desperately need to get some good shots tonight for a project.
