Should I try to get a Mac or stay with a PC?

I going to high school and I'm doing their Academy of New Media. It's supposed to be like editing photos, videos, and all that stuff. Also I'm supposed to get a certificate and a paid internship by the time I go to college. I talked to my mom about it and she said she considering the idea of getting one of those professional camera like a Nikon D40 or D60 and those are the ones I'm looking at right now. Another thing came up; should I ask for a Macbook (Air to be more specific) or keep my PC? Its an eMachine; I got it a year ago. So help with the Mac or PC and if you say PC can you help me find some programs for editing?

Added (1). I have a photoshop account… Not the biggest fan of it but it does the basic things I like.

Photo file numbers in nikon d3100 all mixed up?

When I first started taking photos the automatic photo name was DSC_0001, DSC_0002 etc. But now the photo name has changed to _DSC001, _DSC002, etc. So they are all mixed up and out of order when I download them to my computer. I'm not sure if something happened to the settings in the camera that changed the file name, but can someone tell me how I can get it back to being DSC_(then the number), Not _DSC(then the number)

Nikon D3100 Auto ISO Problem?

I was planning to purchase a D3100 but then ran into posts about how it has an Auto ISO problem.
What I've read is that when set in auto mode, the ISO bounces to a very high ISO and doesn't change to the ISO it's supposed to. Many complain about this and it bothers me so much too but I can't say much of how it affects pictures because this would be my first DSLR.
Do you guys think that I should buy a different dslr because of this or should I still buy it? If not, which other dslr would you recommend?
My budget is $700… Not much but I hope it suffices!

Asking help using Nikon SB600 as fill flash?

I'm going to be taking outdoors group shots soon, so I bought the SB600 I've been wanting for a while for the occasion. The complexity compared to the cheaper flashes I've used before is a little daunting.

I use my Nikon D90 in "M". For fill-flash of people's faces (not the background) I think I should use the flash in "TTL" and not "TTL BL".Is this correct?

And I'm not sure when to use the diffuser. Or not use it. Would I use it when outside as a fill flash?

Thanks, I'm not going to get much practice time before the shots have to be taken! Peace!

I need some tips for photographing a military homecoming?

My friend has asked me to photograph her husbands military homecoming for her, since she will be too busy/distracted to get any photos. I'm excited!
I have a Nikon D3100 with a 18-55mm lens. Its new to me so I need some tips on what setting I should have it on, flash or no flash? It will be in a gymnasium. Some of the photos will be of her kids running to daddy, too. Any tips or advice will be greatly appreciated!
