Flash for Nikon D5000?

Should I get a standard external flash or a continuous output LED? I shoot cars as a hobby.

Most video lights are not powerful enough for still photos, and the units that are cost more than your camera.
For still photography, you need a flash unit. A decent manual flash can be had for $50 or less, or you can go with a full featured iTTL unit, but that will of course cost you more. You can then add a video light on an L bracket so you have both to use as you need them.

You should go with Sunpak PF30X Electronic Flash Unit (Nikon i-TTL) for Nikon D40, D60, D3000, D3100, D5000, D90, D300, D300s, D7000 & D3 Digital SLR Cameras
Small and light weight body requires only 2 AA batteries
Guide Number (ISO 100): 100' (30m)
TTL signals are automatically recognized just by mounting and turning on
EV adjustment buttons enable free operations
Auto Focus Assist Light supports focusing in low light situations

Get a sb400 or sb700… For shooting cars however I never have needed a flash or strobe…
