Should I try to get a Mac or stay with a PC?

I going to high school and I'm doing their Academy of New Media. It's supposed to be like editing photos, videos, and all that stuff. Also I'm supposed to get a certificate and a paid internship by the time I go to college. I talked to my mom about it and she said she considering the idea of getting one of those professional camera like a Nikon D40 or D60 and those are the ones I'm looking at right now. Another thing came up; should I ask for a Macbook (Air to be more specific) or keep my PC? Its an eMachine; I got it a year ago. So help with the Mac or PC and if you say PC can you help me find some programs for editing?

Added (1). I have a photoshop account… Not the biggest fan of it but it does the basic things I like.

Get an imac

I used to have a pc they were good, but i now have the air its great! I prefer it much more to my pc.
and its so small and light i can carry it around camp. Its much faster, and i also think its more attractive.

The mac is way better pc is for gamers

Oh my god a mac its has imovie which is much better than photoshop, iphoto which does all the basic things and imovie hd where you can add special effects such a lightning, energy balls, rain, white fade out and transitions also sound effects and ither things
