Is the AF-S 18-200 mm lens bad?

I was going to get the AF-S 18-200 mm lens for my Nikon D5100, but then I was told that it isn't that good because it is slowe, it is not as sharp as a prime lens, there's more distortion, you won't be able to get as much wide zoom range, you cnat photograph in low light. Is this true?

Added (1). I want to be able to zoom in for pictures as well but I don't really want to have to carry so many lenses and they are really expensive.

Good Fisheye for Nikon D3100?

I found an awesome fish-eye lens on amazon ( http://www.amazon.com/...002LTWDSK/ ) but I realized its the wrong format. Does anyone make a fish-eye at around the same price and quality for DX format Nikon cameras? I don't want a lens attachment, the ring around the photos makes them look unprofessional.

Now that the Nikon d5100 is out and the prices are falling on the d5000

What would be the better buy? The d3100 or the d5000? Is the d3100's low light ability actually that much better than the d5000? I'm attempting to start out in the dslr world and can't make up my mind on the best beginner camera. I keep thinking that maybe the d5000 will allow me to grow maybe better than the d3100. Somebody please give me an opinion.

Is the Canon 18-200mm EF lens considered versatile?

I own a Nikon D3100, and two lens: the 18x55mm VR and the zoom 55-300mm VR both from Nikkor (Nikon). I use it almost daily, and I realize that for my uses, I find myself needing to switch from indoors (I use the 18-55mm for this one) to outdoors (55-300mm). I find it a hassle to keep switching out these lenses almost every time I use them, and I usually carry my DSLR and my 2 lens w/ me. These get heavy after a while, so I'm considering a compromise between the two of these lenses that A.) meets the ranges of the focal lengths between the two and B.) that I can use only one lens instead of bringing two. And also, I'm planning on getting a Canon 60D or Rebel T3i as my next DSLR purchase in the near future, so I'm buying lenses that will fit those (as per the Canon 18-200mm EF lens). I'm aware that I need to get an additional mount adapter to use the Canon lens on the F-mount of my Nikon.

So what I'm asking is this: Can the Canon 18-200mm lens do everything (and more) than my Nikkor 18-55mm? I heard about the focus of the 18-200mm is considerably wide, although (b/c I'm new to photography) I'm not sure what that would mean.

And if I do get the Canon lens, I might consider selling my 18-55mm depending on how good the Canon lens is. Anyway, any input would be appreciated. Thanks!

Added (1). I'm thinking about upgrading to a Canon 60D or a 5D Mk II in the near future, but that's not until after 5 years.

Added (2). I might buy this lens used (if I decide to buy them at all)

Camera insurance/serial number issue. Family

Okay, here's the problem.

I bought a very expensive camera without my dad's permission (I used my own, hard earned money) and I know it would bother him. Before this one, I had a Nikon D80 but as my love for photography continued, so did my desire for the Canon 5D Mark ii so I finally bought it.

I'm traveling next Wednesday and my dad's hooked on the idea of getting me camera insurance for the D80. Little does he know, I have the 5D Mark ii. If he finds out I have such a fancy, expensive camera. I'm. For lack of a better word, ***.

What do I do?

If I give him a random Nikon D80 serial number from off the web, will he know? Will the insurance people know? Would it be okay for me to give him the fake serial number? It's not fake, I mean it is a Nikon D80 serial. Just not MY Nikon D80 serial. Anyway. What can I do? Help I'm so scared! My dad's the kinda guy that would crucify me if he found this out lol

Help? 10 easy points. Serious answers only please!
