Looking for a SLR camera by either Nikon or Canon with good video quality?

I'm looking into getting a SLR camera with a price range of under $1000
I want it to have a good video quality (1080p but i might go for 720p if i have to)
The camera should have both auto focus and manual focus (some don't)
I want good image quality and a fast shutter

I was looking into the D3100 from Nikon, but i heard that Canon has better video quality? Opinions that camera and recommendations for other cameras!

Is it worth investing on a new lens?

Its been bothering me for months already whether I should buy a new SLR body or keep on using my old nikon D60 and maybe buy some new lenses. Any advice?

Added (1). Jeroen:

The D60 is not doing well in low light and the frames per sec is kinda slow for shooting sports. The D60 has only 3 focus points and I think that's not enough for shooting sports and moving objects like cars, etc.already have the 55-200mm lens which I already find enough for sports and sometimes I use it for portrait. So should I stick with what I have and maybe find a good lens online or maybe buy a new body? I'm also thinking about the D7000 to be used as a main body and the D60 as a back up body.

Is there much difference between the nikon D5100 and nikon D7000?

I was having a quick look at the specs and they seem similar, i haven't gone into deep research into it but they both look great. I'm wondering which camera would be better and why?

Recommended lenses for wedding photography (D7000)?

I need some help deciding lenses for my D7000. I have been asked to photograph my cousin's wedding. She understands that I'm amateur but I want to make sure the pictures are of the highest quality. I only have the Nikon 18-105 kit lens and the 50mm f/1.8.

What lenses would you recommend? I would consider third party manufacturers like Tokina and Sigma - all I care about is achieving the highest quality image quality possible.
