Why doesn't my Nikkor 35mm AF-S lens autofocus?
I just got a new 35mm f/1.8 G Nikkor lens and I've already slapped it onto my D3100.It works nicely, except for one thing - the autofocus doesn't work.
Supposedly it's an AF-S lens, so it has an SWM, like Canon's USM or Sigma's HSM. This piece of tech should allow for overriding the focus when in AF mode by just twisting the focusing ring as if you were focusing manually.
But the problem is, there's nothing for me to override, since the camera won't focus so I have to focus it manually. This is the same in both modes, AF or manual.
The camera body knows it's in AF mode (called M/A mode on the lens) since it flashes the AF assist light. But that's all it ever does. It just doesn't autofocus.
I mean, the focus doesn't move at all. The focus only changes when I change it manually. I've read the manual for the lens (which is only long because it's in 12 languages, 5 pages for each language, and doesn't help me whatsoever) and for the camera (with which I haven't found anything about manual focus override or the SWM tech).
I've tried messing around with the AF-L button but it didn't really change anything. The lens manual says something about an AF-ON button, which I can only assume is the same as the AE-L/AF-L button.
Is there anything I can do to try to fix it, or do I have to call Nikon or go to the one and only Nikon service center in my country (which isn't even owned by Nikon)?
Added (1). Also, my 18-55 VR lens focuses just as it should. And the AF assist lamp only lights up when it should, not all the time with my 35mm.

Does a Nikon D3100 take good pictures indoors?
I have heard that a nikon d3100 doesn't take great pictures indoors without a 35mm lens. If I get a 18-55mm lens will it take ok pictures indoors or will they be bad? And how bad? I don't need it for professional use yet.

Canon 550d, Nikon D3100, Pentax K-r.
Which?

Zoom lense won't focus on camera? What's wrong with it?
Not sure what model but on my moms nikon camera (might me the d3000 not sure though) when we put the zoom lense on and it just goes back and forth trying to focus but is always really blurry and it won't take pictures cause it can't focus. Is there a setting on the camera we have wrong or we need to take the lense to a camera store to have it fixed? How much will that cost?
Added (1). Also how do you increase shutter speed?

Is 4th generation ipod touch really worth it?
I've been meaning to get an itouch just to listen to music at work/school and for the apps. I have people who wants to sell me their itouches. I just don't know if I should spend a little bit more money for the $140 4th gen when I could get 2nd or 3rd gen itouches for about $50. I just really don't know if paying the extra is Really worth it. I mean, camera and microphone seems very handy at times when I'm out and about without my laptop, but then again its not a need since I have a perfectly working laptop and a Nikon d3100 I use to take pictures with. They offered me a VERY good price for a decent almost new itouches, but I can't seem to make up my mind…

How to transfer, view, and save raw images from my camera to my comp?
I really need help here as I don't understand the whole digital/ high-tech.camera thing. But to make the story short, my friend and I took a lot of pictures (roughly 400) for a creative project. We made sure to take the pictures in raw format for photo shopping/editing purposes. Problem is, we can't find a fast and simple way to transfer and copy the images onto a computer or USB.
My friend suggested that I use this program called winrar that will convert the images to jpeg. But what was the point in taking the images in raw if the point was to lose the quality (by changing it to jpeg)? Not only that, I need the photos in Raw format to properly edit them. So I really don't know what to do. Took them to CVS/saveon to transfer them onto a disk, that didn't work. My friend tried using adobe but that would take about 10 hours to convert them.
Point is, I really need help. Something fast, something simple. Oh, and we took the pics. On a Nikon d40. Don't know if that helps as I'm not a photographer. So please explain your answers carefully (leaving lots of detail and bring clear).

Best 'All purpose' lens for weddings? (Nikon d7000)?
I have been doing weddings and other portraits lately with my Sigma 17-70mm f2.8 lens and it has been great, but now that I'm getting more business and more weddings I would like to upgrade to something better. Something between the $1000-$1500 price range, I want a lens that I don't have to take off the whole day. I have a Nikkor 50mm f1.8 but it doesn't work with my flash, so I don't normally use it for weddings.
