How to open photos on windows?

I have a windows Vista HP TouchSmart and I wanted to ask if there's anyway I can open my photos from my SD card using a USB without using Windows Photo or live gallery? I want to open my photos with something else but don't know how or what. Is there a way I can open it with something else? I don't have photoshop, I have gimp. But i'm not asking on how to open it using gimp. Just anything else besides windows gallary photo. Because there's an update for RAW files and its not working and I tried 3 times and it still doesn't support RAW. I shoot RAW+FINE. Using a Nikon D3100.

New to DSLR cameras, I want to buy one that isn't too expensive?

I'm really into photography, i'm taking a class at school, and i want to get a nice camera.there's just so many brands, and so many models, it's overwhelming. I found the Nikon d40 and it sounds good from the reviews, and it's only about $430.It would be great if someone could point me in the right direction. Ideally I want one around $450.

Wireless Trigger and Receiver Troubles?

I have the Nikon SB-28 and a Nikon D3000. I bought wireless triggers and receivers. No names ones form Cow Boy Studios. I watched a review and they say it worked. So I bought them, and they just won't work.

Any reason why? Any tips? I have a softbox and all so I'm trying to have the flash off my camera and in the softbox

What lenses should I add to my nikon D90?

So I recently ask about upgrading my gear or new lenses… So the answer is I'm getting new lenses! I have a nikon D90 a 50mm 1.8d and a SB 400… Ok so My dream lens would be the 17-55mm… I asked a great friend who is an amazing artist and she suggest the 85mm… So Should I add the 17-55mm and the 85mm and later add the SB800 OR should I go with the 18-105mm, the 85mm and add the SB800 now? I would be using it for events, portraits and outdoor sessions, but the reason I'm considering the 18-105 is because it offers me the flexibility of going on family outings (trips to disney and sight seeing) with out changing lens? What is smarter? Any other lens that you can suggest that will satisfy my needs? I'm only interested in NIKON gear NOT tamron or any other, is a just my perference! Thanks to all

Added (1). I want to be able to a better job at events, formal receptions and portraits… I'm not into landscaping, not at all! I rather captive the beauty in people or capture moments that make memories… Thanks

I do use the light meter to help me but when it is right the shutter speed is super slow and i want to take high speed shots

Please name the best Nikon Telezoom, not too expensive. I use a Nikon D40.So preferably something suitable for this version, thanks. Also, it should be able to handle dark conditions rather well. Now, what type of inexpensive yet good telezooms are there!

How to connect USB microphone to microphone jack on DSLR camera?

I'm buying a Nikon D5100 and I need a condenser mic along with it. Most of the cheaper mics with good sound quality are USB powered, and I was wondering if there was anyway to connect this to the microphone jack on the camera? Maybe special connection wire?

My nikon d3000 pop up flash isn't working?

The flash pops up, but doesn't flash. I have no idea how to work this camera, but i'm distraught over it. I'm missing so many memories with my children. And i purposly take extra care of it so that something doesn't happen to it. And for some reason, i get blurry, yellowish pictures now. I'm very camera illiterate. It has a million settings, and reading the manual is like gibberish to me. Please help me figure out how i can fix this problem. It isn't even a year old, and i'm unsure if i messed with the settings and it effected it.anyone with help, id grately appreciate! Again, i'm not good with these things, so, if you could explain what i should try to do, in the easiest way, id be very grateful! Thank you!

Added (1). I appreciate all of your help. As for taking a class on photography, i don't think thats necessary when all i want to do is take pictures of my children and have a nice camera doing so. I don't really have the time to do that sort of thing. I know it may seem so easy to you, because you know what your talking about.but, for someone who just likes to take pictures, and is just upset about a good camera not working properly, i just thought id ask.also, the flash pops up, but doesn't fire.
