I'm an amateur freelance photographer and i'm in need of a entry level dslr camera eithr nikon or canon… I heard of canon 550d and nikon d5100 but i'm in dilemma to choose the either. Please suggest me any one or any other camera that has better rating than these cameras… SORRY FOR MY BAD ENGLISH

The "best" camera is the one that feels natural in YOUR hands with controls that YOU can find and use almost instinctively.

If the camera doesn't feel "right" to you and/or you have issues changing the settings, then you will miss shots and/or not enjoy using the camera. That is why I always advise people to visit a camera shop and try the different models out to see which one feels the best to them.

I chose a Canon for its ergonomics/feel/control layout and a fellow photog chose Nikon for the same reasons.

Nikon D5100 competes with 600D.

550D competes with D3100.

They all have the same quality, I recommend you to go with 600D.

The Nikon D5100 is a better camera amongt the two. I'll list the reasons below:
-Significantly lower noise at high ISO.
-Significantly better image quality
-Much better color depth
-Much more dynamic range
-Continuous video focus
-Has in-camera HDR
-Video autofocus
-Has a flip-out screen
-Longer battery life
-Larger sensor
-Better boost ISO
-More focus points
-Slightly more lenses available
-Shoots slightly faster

I just bought a d5100 and wish I bought the canon 600D. Much nicer camera to hold and it seems more refined. I got the nikon because I was told the better sensor is more important but I actually preferred the more vibrant images from the 600D. Go to the shop and test then out and you will understand what I mean.
