Flash for my Nikon D5000?

So i own a NikonD5000 and i got ahold of some old lenses that work amazing on my lense, and love it. Especailly the 50mm f/1.8 series e lens. But Flash and metering doesn't work with this lens. When i try to use my sb400 or my pop up flash it indicates this
Flash is in TTL Mode chose another setting or use a CPU Lens, is there a way around this bcuz i have to stay in the Manual Setting in order for these older lenses to work, or is there a flash i can use out there? Please let me know. I don't want to get a new lens so don't tell me that. Just possibly Buy a new Flash.

Best d.o.f lens for d5100?

I'm looking for lens for my d5100.
specifically lens that are good at d.o.f (depth of field) & can zoom.
I suck at looking for lens, i'm no professional but I do want quality in my pictures
I wanted the nikkor 50mm but somebody told me that autofocus won't work on the d5100, unless he's wrong which makes it more confusing. Could anybody suggest me lens? I don't like pricey items so at the most I would like them to cost $300. Please & thanks!

Added (1). @Hondo, like I said, i'm no professional, I don't think people are understanding me too well lol.
I know that every lens has d.o.f, but many of the lens out there can do specifically that. The kit lens that I currently have suck when it comes to d.o.f, but there's many lens out there that can do better. Know what i'm saying?

Advice on Nikon camera gear?

I have between $1, 000-1, 500 budget to expand my collection of camera equipment. I'm torn between buying a new body OR buying a new lens and flash equipment. Looking for advice.

Currently, I have the following:
Nikon D3000 (it's been great but I know I will want to upgrade soon. I'm considering the D7000)
Nikon DX AF-S 35mm 1:1.8g
Nikon 55-200 f/4.5-5.6 AF-S DX VR
Nikon 50mm f/1.8D AF (that I manually focus on the D3000 body)

So, here's my dilemma:

I have a lot of high quality glass (Pentax k-mounts) that i use on my film camera. I could, potentially, purchase an adaptor ring (Nikon body to Bayonet mount lens) so that I could use all of my lenses on a nikon body. Granted, the images may lose some sharpness. In this instance, I could buy the Nikon D7000 (body only) and use a great variety of lenses… But no flash.

OR

I could purchase a high quality Sigma lens (Auto Focus? On D3000 body) that is intended for portrait work, as this is the area I'm lacking a lens. The 50mm is great for portrait work--sharp-- but at times the manual focus in low light conditions is not favorable. With this instance, I could also purchase a flash.

Currently, I use my 35mm the most. I shoot architectural elements, nature, etc. I rarely do portrait work but I would like to.

Suggestions?

I'm open to many ideas.

Added (1). I'll probably sell my 55-200 anyway & put some of that money toward a different zoom lens.

Any suggestions for a zoom lens, keeping affordability in mind-- budget of $500-$600 or so. Must be capable of auto focus on d3000.

How to imitate Ricoh's Bleach Bypass effect on Nikon D90?

Ricoh cameras have a cool Bleach Bypass effect which I'm trying to imitate on my Nikon D90. I decreased the saturation, and increased the contrast, however it is still not the same. What specific setting should I use either directly on my camera, or on Nikon View NX2 to get this effect? Should I also change the white balance and the color tone in a specific way?

Thanks for any help

Added (1). Is there any way without Photoshop? Either directly on camera (by playing with colors) or with the free software of Nikon (View NX2)?

Do AlienBees B400/B800 sync up with a Nikon D3000?

I was looking at purchasing a few AlienBees Lights for my studio, however, I want to be sure that they can sync up with my Nikon D3000 through the sync cord provided. Don't want any problems. Can anyone give me some insight on this issue? I'm asking because I was advised to research everything carefully. Below are links to the two lights I plan on purchasing.
