Can you put any type of lens on Nikon DSLR cameras?
My father has old lens that come off from a Minolta film camera, would they fit on a Nikon DSLR I plan on buying? Such as Nikon d3100?

What's a great starter DSLR camera?
I'm looking to make the jump from P&S to DSLR. I mostly take pictures of animals, nature, that sort of thing. Zoom is important to me, so I don't want a pixelated picture when I go back to look at them. Also, I'd like one with a rechargeable battery. I was looking at the Nikon D3100.Is that a good choice?
I'd want to go no higher than $550

Is this lense compatible with the Nikon D3100?
I've been looking into getting a Nikon D3100 camera recently & i personally LOVE fisheye lenses. So i was wondering if anyone knew if this one is compatible with the Nikon i want?
here's the link:

if not, can someone please direct me to a fisheye lense that is compatible with it, & preferably a cheaper one?

Nikon D3000 does not have in-camera AF motor?
I have come to realize this and it stinks. It means that my camera is only compatible with AF-S lenses.
So my question is, what camera, in similar price range to d3000, has a built in AF motor? And do you think I should switch cameras? What lens types is the d3100 compatible with? I've heard it is an all-around good camera (and yes I'm still a newbie).
thanks…
5 stars!
Added (1). "Is there a particular lens that you need for which you have trouble finding a suitable autofocusing one?"
Well see, I wanted the 1.8 50mm lens. The AF is $120 while the AF-S is $220 So my issue is price. Are AF-S lenses always more expensive? Also, the AF version is slightly smaller, which is nice. Just wondering, and thanks for the info, very helpful!
Added (2). Also, I was wondering if Canon is always cheaper than Nikon? I'm a considering switching now but I wonder what other little random problems I would run into. I would be getting an entry level camera.

Sigma 18mm-125mm or Sigma 18mm-200mm for a Nikon D5100
I'm a learning photographer ready to take the next step and buy my first DSLR! So after quite a bit of research (and trying to keep within my budget) I have decided on the Nikon D5100. Now I'm trying to decide which lens to get to compliment my camera nicely.
The reason I'm looking into getting a zoom lens such as the Sigma 18-125 or Sigma 18-200 is because I'm going on a backpacking trip to Europe for two months and definitely don't want to carry much more gear around while also running the risk of getting dust on the sensor and lens. I understand the obvious difference in zoom range, and am okay with either one. I want to get the lens that will be of the best build/function and, of course, will produce the best images. So after looking for info on both Sigma lenses, I'm just going to ask you strangers for your opinions and advice. Hopefully some of you know enough about lenses or at least where I can find a useful comparison to look at.

Nikon D3000 lens problem, lens sticking mid zoom?
Now then,
I've just picked up my camera from not using it in a while and the lens isn't running smooth while zooming, the lens is the 18-55mm, but running through 24-35 its pretty stiff! If i auto focus while in this position, the camera makes a slight squeal noise, but it seems to run through zoom better when in manual zoom, still not perfect. I was thinking a bit of dust of some sort as i haven't dropped the camera at all. What do you guys think. Matt.

What wide angle lens and zoom lens would you choose?
I'm interested in buying a zoom lens and a wide angle lens for my D90 and D70.
Out of these zoom lenses, which would you choose?:

2011-12 dslr camera recommendation for first time users?
I'm new to photography but i'll like to expand on possibly doing professional shooting in the near future. Which camera would be a good investment? Reason for being selective is I don't want one where I'll just use it for occasional shooting and then have to upgrade to a different model immediately.
I have a few camera i've been looking into recently.
canon eso 650d or the rebel t4i as they call it
d3200
60d
d7000
of course, these are just some I picked out, but if you got one you love, feel free to list them and explain why it's the better option in your opinion. I'm very open-minded and I trust your judgement.
My preferable brand is canon OR nikon
Cheers
