Nikon Flex tt5 and mini tt1 problem?

I'm shooting with a d700 with mini tt1 on camera hot shoe, with sb900 on top. Then using the flex tt5 with sb600 off camera. My problem is I can fire the sb600 off camera when I'm only using the mini tt1 on the camera hot shoe. When i place my sb900 on top of it for some fill flash the off camera flash stops firing or fires erratically (once in a while not every time. I have tried setting the sb900 as on, master, and commander and none of these settings change anything. I have done this setup before without a problem but I can't seem to do it again and am not sure if I'm forgetting a step or a setting? I really like to use the combination of off camera flash with on camera fill. Any one know what i'm doing wrong?

Added (1). @fhotoace I use the pocketwizzards because they can be fired remotely behind objects, they don't require the ability to see each other. I'm not looking for an alternative to using them just an answer on how to use them correctly

Rubber lens hood that works with Nikon's 85mm f1.8D?

I'm heavily considering adding an 85mm to my camera bag.

I do not like the fact that the lens's default lens hood (HN-23) is a metal screw on because I would not have all the time to do all that screwing on and off every time I take it out of my bag. I wonder why it's not rubber like the hood for the 50mm f1.8D.

I know that the lens uses a 62mm filter thread and that companies like Promaster make rubber lenses. I was wondering if I could use almost any 62mm rubber lens hood that won't vignette.

Any advice would be helpful.

By the way, the bodies I use are a Nikon D300s and a Nikon D300. Both are DX sensors.

Added (1). Andrew: I don't mind the fact that rubber hoods are screw on because I can easily expand them and collapse them for my camera bag. The metal screw on I have an issue with because I have to screw it and unscrew it every time.

And no, the Nikon 85mm f1.8D does not have a bayonet mount.

Does the Nikon D600 have better dynamic range than the D700? As much as 1 full stop?

1) Does the Nikon D600 have better dynamic range than the D700? As much as 1 full stop, or less than that?

2) Of all the FX cameras available, which has the best dynamic range?

3) Are the sales of the D600 exceeding, meeting, or missing Nikon's projections / expectations?

What type of Camera and Lens can take photos at this distance?

When that paparazzi photographer took them holiday shots of Kate Middleton topless on holiday at the Chateau d'Autet, what camera can take photos THAT far away.

Here is an image that shows this distance were talking about and it's an incredible distance for such clear photos: image

I would love to own a camera that is this powerful but I didn't think they existed until I recently read this story. I imagine they will be expensive but I would be very grateful if someone could source me a lens that could do this. I own a Nikon D300S SLR.

Issues connecting Nikon D800 to computer?

So I just bought a Nikon D800 and have installed the program that came with it on a CD. I'm trying to view the photos I've taken with the camera on my computer, but when I connect the camera to my computer, it doesn't work. Initially, I get an alert balloon saying it's installing the device driver software, which is normal, but then it stops and says the device driver software has not been successfully installed.
If it's relevant, my computer runs on Windows 7 Starter.
