Buying first digital-SLR, which model?

After failing at any decent form of photography for the last 4 years with a point-and-shoot, I've decided to put money towards an SLR. A little 'starter kit' would be good for now, so I can get the hang of it before getting any fancy lenses. Something that includes a body and a lens. I adore macro shots. I do not want the Nikon D3000, because for some reason I know 9, 000 people with that camera. I'm looking for something a tad bit better, but I still want to keep it under 800 dollars. Any tips? Mostly interested in wildlife photography, if that helps at all.

Added (1). The Rebel T2i is considerable. Which would you go with out of the following?

Nikon SLR Fast Shutter speed too dark?

I recently Purchased a Nikon D3100 and I'm going to be doing some bald eagle watch this weekend. I would like to catch a clear crisp image of the birds weather they are in motion or somewhat still.
on sport mode of the camera I can select on avg a 1/25 to 1/500 s shutter speed depending on the lighting I guess, but if I go into my S mode(shutter priority) I can select what ever shutter speed I want although the higher my shutter speed it the less light my sensor can absorb and handle, I think that's the theory behind it I was curious to what application a 1/4000s shutter speed would be used? And if I want to take a 30 s observation on lets say a starry sky, it says its too dark and won't take a picture but I think i found a way around it by turning my auto focus off to bypass it?

I'm more concerned about my fast shutter speed having sufficient light, I played with my iso settings and +/- brightness to let in more light but it's not enough

many of you are probably thinking turn my flash on however I'm already outside its daylight out and I'd like to do rapid shots, 3 frames per second. Which I don't think the flash will do that

what's are good setting for my type of work I will be doing this weekend (birds)

Nikkor 16-85 Vr and Nikon D7000?

Hi, i would like to know if there's any one out there that currently owns a Nikon D7000 & the 16-85Vr
i have the D7000 with kit lense 18-105 vr and i would like to get a better lense. I heard that the 16-85 is very sharp compare to the 18-200vr but there are some reviews online saying that the 16-85vr some Af issues and softness when used in the D7000.

Nikon d3100, 3fps, is it enough?

I'm an amateur photographer, and I'm buying my first DSLR.
I make different type of photography, including sports.
But, is 3 fps enough for me, or should I spend more money on other cameras that offer faster shooting?

Does the Nikon D3100 have manual override for its photography mode?

I know that it doesn't have any manual settings for its video mode, but how about photography? Thank you!

Added (1). Hey, guys. Thanks for the all of the answers so far. I'm currently starting a Photography module in college, but I'm afraid I'm a bit clueless about everything! I need a DSLR camera and manual override is a must. It sounds like the Nikon D3100 is exactly what I'm looking for.

What is causing this black shape on my Photos from my Nikon D50?

I have a Nikon D-50 that I got used for Christmas. It was bought off my aunt who I believe takes very good care of her cameras. I have noticed this black shadow shape in the top left section of my photos. I see it clearest when I take pictures of the sky. I would like to know what is causing it. I have tried different lenses and it is still there, so I know it is from the camera itself. What would cause it? What needs to be cleaned? How do you clean it? Thanks for any help. Please let me know what you think.

Here are the links to the examples of what I mean. I had to shrink the file to post it, so the detail isn't as clear. But in its regular size. It is quite noticeable.
