Does the Nikon D5000 do 1080p video?
Does the Nikon D5000 do 1080p video?
No.
The first Nikon dSLR's to shoot at 1080p are the D3100 and D7000.
These two cameras are also the only two full dSLR cameras that can auto-focus in the video mode.
The Sony A33 and A55 cameras can auto-focus in the video mode but they are NOT dSLR's as we know them. They are what are known as Single Lens Translucent cameras or dSLT.
The first (and only) SLT camera was introduced by Canon in 1965, the Pellix. It did not enjoy a long career since the translucent mirror caused the viewfinder to be quite dim and under low light conditions, difficult to focus
