Lens hood for my Nikon D3100?

I just discovered I had a lens hood for my Nikon D3100
This might be a really dumb question but how does the hood go on the lens? I looked in the users manual and they mention nothing about a lens hood.
Does the hood fit tightly on the lens or loose?
Does it screw on tight?
I'm not sure
Also what use can I get out of using a lens hood?

in case anyone is wondering what it looks like its this:

Nikon d3100 video mode?

Hello guys - I'm posting another question. I'm buying my first DSLR. I just wan you to tell me how is the video mode like on the D3100? I know it is continuous autofocus. That to me sounds really irritating - like focuses again n again!
Will it be able to just shoot videos like you do with a mobile camera, just press a button And voila everybody and everything is in focus? Can't DSLRS do tht?
Sorry if this is a really stupid question to you guys, As I said this will be my first dslr

Buying first DSLR camera?

I have been researching DSLR's lately, and came up with these three options (in my budget):
-Nikon D3000 ($500)
-Nikon D5000 ($630)
-Nikon D3100 ($700)

This would be my first DSLR camera, so I just need some advice on both cameras and lenses. My sister's friend from college actually gave me some advice. She has a D90 and will be taking my senior pics. She told me that a Nikon D3100 would be the best option. However, this is the most expensive camera I would be willing to buy at this point.

I have been told the D3100 has a lot of nice features, and although it's more expensive, it would be a great camera for me to grow into as my knowledge of photography and cameras grows as well. The D3000, on the other hand, has been said to be one of the best entry-level "for-beginners" DSLR camera.

So, I'm wondering, should I invest in the more expensive camera, or just go with the cheap one? Also, which lens(es) should I be considering. I think at this point, if I were to buy the expensive camera, I would go for a lens under or around $150. If I were to buy the cheaper camera, I could probably spend up to twice that amount on a lens.

So… Which camera would be best for me? And which lenses should I pair with it?

How to make £200 in a couple of weeks?

Ok so i'm 13 and am really taken in by photography. I was able to save up and buy photoshop a couple of months ago and ever since that i aspire to develop photos into artwork, through the works of photoshop but i have not got a decent enough camera to do so. I have scoured the net thoroughly for ideas on how to earn money, but have not come up with any that i have been taken in by.
These are the things i have tried so please don't mention them:

- Paid to type
- Online surveys
- Paid to click
- Paid to answer questions
- iv tried 99% of 'paid to' websites
- affiliate marketing schemes
- selling (wholesale and my second hand items) on ebay
- anything that really involves wholesale marketing
- Asking for odd jobs around neighbourhood (e.g babysitting, carwashing). People are not so giving from where i live
- I have a paper round
- I have been to 'car-boot sales' to resell my items
- I have an allowance so i don't really want to ask my parents if i can do jobs for them.
- Selling cans and plastic bottles (rates where i live are incredibly low)
- Getting rid of CD's and DVD's through musicmagpie
- tried handing out leaflets
- don't really want to donate my blood/plasma just yet

^
All of the above have not worked out for me. The Digital SLR camera that i want is called the
'Nikon D3100'.It currently costs £399 and i have £250. But i will need to buy some accessories like a tripod so £200 should suffice.

Thank you and 10 points to best answer.

Added (1). I have looked at second hand/refurbished Nikon D3100 and they are around (if not the same) as they are new.

What is the thread size for my camera's lens?

I'm looking for a screw on, close up lens (like a filter) for my Nikon D80. My Nikon lens is 18-135mm.

I'm unsure of the thread size of my camera and this is required for the screw on lens. Can anyone help?

Sharpening technique with photoshop?

I have Photoshop Elements 7, and a Nikon D7000 SLR with kit lens (18-105mm) and a 50mm 1.8D. I know of 2 techniques for sharpening (Unsharp Mask and High Pass Filter > Overlay) but I'm having difficulties in obtaining sharp crisp images.

I often look on other photographer's websites for general inspiration and am envious of how their photos look. Their pictures seem so much sharper and have more detail almost.

I generally use the High Pass Filter set to anywhere between 3-8. I stay away from the Unsharp Mask because I'm unsure on the ideal settings to achieve the best results.

Is it my technique, or the fact that I mainly use the kit lens?

Any guidance would be appreciated.

How big can I print w/o sacrificing quality?

I took a picture with my 6.1mp Nikon D40 and then cropped it down to a final resolution of 2347 x 1320. I'm wondering how large I can have this picture printed out to be without losing image quality. I was thinking about making a 33.78" x 19" print but I'm not sure if it will look pixelated or not at this size.
