New to DSLR cameras, I want to buy one that isn't too expensive?
I'm really into photography, i'm taking a class at school, and i want to get a nice camera.there's just so many brands, and so many models, it's overwhelming. I found the Nikon d40 and it sounds good from the reviews, and it's only about $430.It would be great if someone could point me in the right direction. Ideally I want one around $450.
Added (1). You can tell i have no idea what i want, sorry.
Nikon D40 is around 5 years old and can hardly be found. $430 is so overpriced!
Canon EOS XS and Nikon D3000, newer models, cost around $450 and are much better. The XS also has Live View, which is a standard nowadays but these two cameras are 2-3 years old.

I agree with Eric. It really is alot for such an old model. The camera i'd suggest is Nikon D3000. Its a newer model and takes excellent shots. It will really help you grow more into photography. It surely is a great starter DSLR. Its features include the following:
-10.2-megapixel DX-format imaging sensor for prints up to 20 x 30 inches
-Includes 3x 18-55mm Zoom-Nikkor VR Image Stabilization lens
-Nikon EXPEED image processing; in-camera image editing and Active D-Lighting
-3.0-inch color LCD screen; 170-degree wide-angle viewing
-Capture images to SD/SDHC memory cards
-3.0-inch color LCD screen, 170-degree wide-angle viewing
-Nikon EXPEED image processing, in-camera image editing and Active D-Lighting
