Can I manually select the Shutter Speed on a Nikon D3100/D5100?
I'm planning on buying either a Nikon D3100 or a D5100 depending on my budget
I've never used a DSLR before (I've always used a Point and Shoot)
I was wondering about how much manual control cameras like these offer
Can I manually Control the Shutter Speed and the Aperture and the ISO and the White Balance and Manual Focus and take a picture
I've heard of shooting modes like "Manual" "Shutter Priority" "Aperture Priority" and always wondered if that meant that I could only select one setting for each shot while the cam automatically selects the other
I really hope that this isn't the case
I know this sort of a N00b question but have really been wondering about this

Important DSLR tips to keep with me all the time?
I need a list of important tips to write in a note book and keep in my camera bag… Like:
ISO
Shutter
Aperture
and any other important things that could slip my mind(nikon d5100. If it is important)
Added (1). U helped a bit. But i need some techniques and stuff that i should always know and might forget from time to time… Like depth of field and shutter speeds, and burst techniques.stuff like that

How to set Nikon camera to shoot colours like Canon?
I have a Nikon D3100. And I kinda prefer the colours of the canon.
They are kinda cooler, and i don't know. The cold look. I like to see what actually happened there, and not to see too strong colours.
people say that you can set this, but how?
maybe buying a nikon was a mistake.

Zoom macro lenses for nikon d60?
I own a Nikon d60 (no motor in body) and use a Sigma 70-300 nonAPO DG Macro lens (no OS) and i like it's telephoto capability and macro focusing and this was just about 180USD (cheapest i found)
What are the next better similar lenses (Especially with the HSM motor for autofocus with my non motor body, with Optical stabilization this time a must, macro would be helpful for me and longer zoom distances (more like upto 400, 500mm.
I do people in street photography (from longer distances to get natural faces, not spotted the camera) and wildlife (birds, animals), sometimes sports and public events.
Can you also list the prices for the same set of lens recommendations for my requirement.

Is a flashgun necessary when taking photos at night or at a party?
I have a Nikon D3000 and a Pentax Super 100 and will be doing a party for some friends and wondered should i use aflash or just turn ISO up and use the flash in the camera suggestions welcome

Which lens should i pick for nikon d3100?
Ok i love portraits with awesome bokeh and i want to take great pics of my kids playing ect and close ups. I have saved up and really need help on making the best decision for a lens. What is my best option with these 3. 50mm 1.4, 105 2.8 macro, or the 18-200 vr. Which one will be the best in your opinion that i would get the most use out of. I'm stressing because the more i read the more confused i become.
Added (1). Something i can go to wedding and such and get really great pics.
Added (2). I didn't say i couldn't take nice pics with the 18-55 i just want to add a nice lens.

I've been trying to photograph rhinestoned bracelets. When looking with the eye, they look VERY shiny and sparkle nicely. However, in the viewfinder, it doesn't do them justice. My camera (Nikon D5100) doesn't seem to be capturing the shine of the bracelets. Any tips or ideas of how to make them look the same way in the photos as in real life?

Is Nikon D3100 SLR digital camera worth buying for?
Is Nikon D3100 SLR digital camera worth buying for?

I use Nikon D5100.
I'm not planning to spend too much on an ultra wide lens. I'm just going to practice photography with these lenses. After I got experienced enough, I would switch to a more expensive one.
By now, neither the quality nor the sharpness of the final photo really matters. Low price and high FOV is important at the moment.
What would you suggest?
