What makes a flash a good flash?
I've been looking at flashes to buy for a Nikon D5100, and have found a bunch of results, but don't know which flashes are better than the other. I know very little about flashes, as I try to shoot with natural lighting as much as possible (long shutters etc.) The only thing that I know makes flashes better than another is the recycle time… A little help please…

Which one would you choose to start taking pictures?
I need a camera to start off taking picture in a very amateur way, I'm just starting but I would really like the Camera to have the best performance, so far I've been looking on internet and i learned about BRIDGE cameras and DSRL, I like the following, please tell me which one would be better for me! Thank you!
-Bridge:
-Canon Powershot SX50HS

--Panasonic Lumix FZ200

-DSRL:
-Nikon D3100

people say that the last one is better but buying different lenses is not something I can afford, so I don't know if different lenses would be necessary for the last one to work!
Thank you!
Added (1). Sammmeh, what about the lenses?

Photography is just my hobby. I'm unable to decide which one to buy (Sony A37 or Nikon D3100) for my personal use. Can anyone comment about the comfort and picture quality comparison between these DSLR's.

Vignetting at 18mm - Nikon D3100. 18-55mm lens?
I'm new to photography and I have no idea there's always some vignetting at 18mm. I don't seem to be able to shoot at 18mm. The vignetting only disappears at 24mm. Is there something wrong with my camera/lens?

Nikon 50 mm 1.8: Nikkor (AF) or Series E?
I'm considering these 2. The Nikkor one is like 3 times more expensive than the Series E one. Is it worth the price?
Added (1). I have a Nikon D3100 and manual focus isn't a matter for me. I only care about the picture quality here.
