Which camera will give a better photo, a 50x zoom camera or a camera with a 18-55 lens?
I'm new to DSL Rs confused and between Canon EOS 600d, Canon EOS 550d, Nikon D5100, Nikon D3100
and a Sony HX 300
My family is asking me to buy the Sony Hx300 as the camera has to be used for domestic purpose also.
The lens which they are providing with Canon and Nikon cameras is 18-55mm and lenses with higher focal lengths are very expensive (can't afford them, as for now) plus I'm not a professional user.

Does this means this battery grip can only be used when the usb cable are connected to the camera? I never own any battery grip so I was curious as I thought battery grip can be used without any usb cable connected to anywhere.
My camera has stopped recognising my shutter release cable?
I have a Nikon D5000 and have started doing some night photography and with some nice results, however I bought a 'Shoot' shutter release cable from Ebay a few weeks back, initially everything went well, however my camera has stopped recognising it, if the back of the camera is lit up & I press it, the camera goes dark as if there's something happening, but the actual shutter release doesn't activate… It was fine last night when I was out using it.
I appreciate any advice given
Nikon d7000 broken autofocus Repair or Exchange after 4 day use? - 1
I just purchased a brand new Nikon d7000 and after 4 days of use the Autofocus stopped working!
I was wondering which would be better? To send it to Nikon for Repair? Or To send it back to the Store for an Exchange? Why?
I worry on both because. I don't want to send it away for repair and have something else go wrong with it once I get it back… After all it doesn't really bode well to be having a brand new camera repaired after only 4 days use. And I also worry that if I exchange it I will end up with another problem camera! Thoughts?

Added (1). Did all the stuff both of you mentioned. Read through almost the whole manual, checked all the autofocus & lock buttons, checked All menu settings, even tried reattaching the lens again! Nothing! Won't focus.
When I shoot certain portraits in the middle of the day, their face and body might at times be hidden in shadows. I know using a fill flash might help, but there are other ways of taking better pictures. I try using a reflector, too. Also, I was informed that I should invest in a 50mm lens for portraiture. I use a Nikon D3100.
I recently decided to start making YouTube videos with my Nikon D5100, but i was terrible disappointed afterwards.
I was planning to use windows movie maker to edit my video but i found out that Windows movie maker doesn't support the Nikon D5100 File. Thus, it didn't let me upload the video to edit it.
So i went online, searching, and i found out i need a video converted. I searched for the best one to use for the Nikon D5100, got the trail and after it converted the video yet again i was disappointed. The video converter killed my audio and the quality of my video as well as made it very slow.
And this is where i need help. What should i do?
Should i get another editing software other then Windows movie maker?
What kind of video converter should i use? (Because supposedly i got a trail to a very good one and apparently it was suppose to work great with my cameras video and it didn't.)
If you have any tips, suggestions or anything like that let me know because i'm new to making youtube videos, and i want to start making high quality, smooth looking videos. And i do see that people use Their Nikon D5100 Camera to film and when they post it on YouTube, its flawless.
So please let me know.
Why doesn't the dust on my cameras sensor show up in pictures?
I have a Nikon D3000 and noticed that when I look in the viewfinder I see a piece of dust. But when I take a picture it doesn't show up. Why is this and is it necessary to have it cleaned?
Price cut on Nikon DSLRs.till when?
I want to buy a Nikon D3100 w/ 18-55 VR lens from Walmart,
there's a price cut on every website (amazon, walmart, best buy and Target… Etc)
in amazon it was $649 and now $449 and on Walmart and other sites it was $549 and know $449
well there's a price cut about $100 so is this permanent?
if not when will the offer expire?
because I'm planing to buy it in June from Walmart or best buy

The 28mm f1.8g is a little expensive for me, but I have the 35mm f1.8g and an old Nikon d70 and can't get such pics.
