Which DSLR camera shall I buy?
I'm a student currently studying a foundation degree in photography (started in september). I did photography at A-level and it is my passion. I do it as a hobby outside of uni work aswell. I'm currently on the stage of switching from bridge camera to dslr. I have used dslr cameras a lot before (nikon d3000 and d3100) but i now want to buy one of my own. Is there any that you would recommend?
And I prefer Nikon to Canon.
You need our opinion like you need a hole in your head! You have been using the Nikon product and prefer it! That's fine! But which of the two products are the most comfortable to view through and to hold and locate controls while you are shooting? This should be your criteria, not us!
It really depends on your budget and criteria.
If you are limited on your budget, try the Nikon D3200. Its amazing for that price. If your have a bigger budget, then try the D5200
If your budget is tight and you don't mind menus, the d3100 is a solid choice. It's available for ~500 because the d3200 came out. Lenses are more important anyway.
Why on earth do you prefer Nikon to Canon?
I've had loads of Canons and they are beautiful cameras; both in build quality and ease of use. They also take great photos!
Pop into a photographic shop and handle one or two, you might change your mind.
There's nothing wrong with Nikon; I just think you should keep an open mind when choosing an expensive piece of equipment.

It's the canon 7D going at a cheap price since the release of the 6D but this doesn't mean that it's not a powerful and serious camera
And performs well in all situations.
