I'm looking for a specific answer like, the actual difference when you take pictures.

Huge if you are interested in shooting video too.

The D3100 has Full HD video and can auto-focus in the video mode as well. It has a lot of features for the small $150 more, well worth it for most people

Compare the two yourself

The pictures are of a better quality. Both because of the higher shooting resolution and the fact the D3100 is a newer camera. The D3100 also has HD video recording, a feature not present in the D3000. Also, the D3100 is much better for "new" photographers (i.e.those that have just moved from a compact to an SLR) as it has a guide mode. If you're going to buy one, I'd suggest the D3100.

D3100 has a bigger LCD screen, Full HD And HD Video, Live View, higher ISO range with less noise.

It's a much better DSLR.
