Exactly 100 D's. You can use the Search box at the top of this page to look for spec pages of the two camera models. All you need to do after that is to flip back and forth between the two pages to see and compare the values on each spec. If you don't know what you are looking at then it becomes simpler. Just buy the newer and more expensive one. That should do it.

The main difference is the D3000 doesn't do video while the D3100 does.

There are big differences.

D3000 = 10.2 mp CCD sensor, max ISO of 3200, no Live View, no video, etc.
Here's a full review.

D3100 = 14.2 mp CMOS sensor, max ISO of 12800, Live View, HD video, etc.
And it's full review (with some comparisons)

If you can afford the small difference in price, I'd strongly recommend the D3100.

The D3100 is the new model of the D3000. Almost like the iPad to iPad 2. The D3100 has better specs like 4 more megapixels then the D3000 mere 10. D3100 has full HD video recording and the D3000 has nought. The D3100 can go to ISO 12, 800 and the D3000 can only do 3200. Those are the main differences but there are more tiny details like the D3100 has live view and others.

Hope this helps
