The kit includes a 18-55 mm lens.
If you wanted a different lens, you would buy the D3000 body and the lens of your choice. The 18-200 mm VR is one of the more popular lenses

The only difference is that you get the lens with the kit. When you buy the lens with the camera you save on the lens.
