UV Filter Shattered onto my lens

I'm the owner of a nikon d5000 and i bought a new lens last week it's a Tamron 18 - 200mm
I've been sick all week so i havn't had a good chance to shoot. I took the camera out of my bad this morning and screamed when i saw that the UV filter was shattered i freaked out. I took it off and cleaned most of the lens. There are still some parts of glass on the lens and also inside it?
Could i take it somewhere to get cleaned or something?
And do i NEED to buy a new filter?

Filters just don't shatter! There's no way glass could get inside the lens, unless the lens glass is broke as well. If it is, it's toast.
It will cost you bucks to have it cleaned.
I always keep a UV / haze filter on my lens. Many do not.

This is exactly why I never use UV filters.

The UV filter can save the front element of a lens from sticky fingers or even some projectiles.

Here is how a UV filter saved my $800 lens.

All I had to do was remove the damaged UV filter and replace it with a new one. Total cost? $90 for the UV filter and another $15 for the lens hood. I consider that insurance.

How the UV filter shattered so much that you had to clean the lenses front element tells us that you really hammered your lens, something that needs to be avoided at all costs

This is EXACTLY why I have never used a UV filter- it's not 'protection', it's a hazard. You will be extremely lucky if your lens is not scratched. Why do people think they need a thin piece of glass 2mm in front their lens? What specific danger is there when you are shooting? I don't know about other photographers, but here's how I do things:

1- Camera in hand while I'm walking around, lens cap on.
2- Camera up to eye to shoot, lens cap off
3- Lens cap back on as I continue on my way.

What could possibly happen to my lens? I've travelled for many years in extreme conditions- deserts, rainforests, crowded cities and souks, trains, hitchiking, mountains, boats, crawling on my stomach in deep woods, etc etc and I'm really, really tough on my gear. I have never scratched or damaged the front of my lens. I hope your lens is OK!

EDIT- Whoops- feel like a dolt- I didn't see the first answer and I said the identical thing!
