Is the Nikon D5100 equivalent to the Canon t3i?

I was comparing cameras and found many similarities between the Nikon D1500 and the Canon t3i. I'm torn between these two.
Which is better?

Can I use a vivtar 285hv flash on?

My nikon d80? Can I use it directly on the hot shoe? Apparently I won't be able to use it or something, whatever that really means… Is it important? Am I better off just getting an sb600 dedicated unit? Apparently these 285hv will work with remote control flash triggers and so forth so they can be used off camera wirelessly…

I'm not a flash person… I haven't really ever used them in any way… So I don't know if using a flash without this i-t/l might just be a headache if I don't know what I'm doing… For that matter someone might alternatively tell me that I-t/l is akin to just using the auto green mode on a camera, and that any real photographer uses manual mode!

the only flash I have ever used is the popuo one on my d80… That's supposed to use this I-t/l but I find that I'm always having to use flash compensation anyway…

What will i miss with my D3100?

I read a lot of answers on here and a couple of reviews saying don't get an entry level DSLR camera as you will grow out of it. What will I miss with my Nikon D3100? Are there really that many more ways to use a more expensive camera? Are we talking gimmicks? Is there a lot of equipment envy and snobbery in the photography world (like folk who like to squeeze 2 more BHP out their car so they can bore folk in the pub). Or are there real genuine, usable real world advantages.

Nikon d5000 How to get crisp pictures?

I have a nikon d5000. I'm in the learning process of photography. I shoot natural light only. I can take clear/focused pictures fine but its the color that I can't figure out. My whites look grayish not bright? I see other pics and they are really crisp white and I can't figure out what to do. Any suggestions?

Any good Digital SLR cameras for beginners?

Long story short, I've been looking into getting a new camera later into the year. I was set on a Canon SX30 is earlier, which isn't an DSLR camera, but I thought it would be pretty decent because of the super zoom and all of the features that it came with. I've heard a lot of great reviews, and for the price, it should be a pretty good deal. But lately, I've been interested in getting a DSLR camera. I've never done much photography and I'd be getting a new camera for the purposes of recording HD videos, but I'd also probably have a knack for photography if I got a new camera. I've been looking at the Nikon - D3100 14.2-Megapixel Digital SLR Camera and the Canon - EOS Digital Rebel T3 12.2-Megapixel Digital SLR Camera. Both seem to have pretty good reviews and Nikon and Canon are reliable. But I'd like to ask if anyone knew of any other cameras that are in a reasonable price range and have good quality. And if you have any advice about getting additional things when buying the camera, that'd be great, too.

Suggest a suitable head for my manfrotto tripod?

I'm planning to get a Manfrotto Tripod (Model 055xProB) specially because I love its horizontal arm. Now that I'm decided on this model, I'm looking for a suitable head to use on the tripod.

Looking forward to your suggestions…

Additional Info: I have a Nikon D5000 + a battery grip and I will be using the set up with Sigma 10-20mm or Nikon 55-200 or few portrait prime lenses. Also, I intend to use it for macro lenses in future.

Why won't my Nikon D90 Pop up flash button work?

The flash is fully functional because it works fine in any auto mode. However, when I put the camera into any of the four manual modes, the flash button doesn't work when I press it to pop the flash up.

Is there a certain setting that I should set my camera to for it to work?
Also, my camera won't communicate with an SB-600 when I try to put it into commander mode and set up the channels and everything correctly.

I sent my camera to the Nikon care center a few weeks ago and they sent it back saying that they fixed everything, but this problem has arisen again.

Any cheap camera lenses for?

A Nikon D40?

My sister has broken mine, and I know she'll refuse to pay for a new one. So since I don't like splurging for items, could someone help me find a cheap lens? It doesn't have to be "the best" I would just like to use my camera again.
