Are nikon dslr cameras scratch resistant?

I have the nikon D5100 and today i bought a vintage camera strap. When i got home i realized that it might scratch my camera because it attaches using metal hooks. Should i go back to my original all fabric nikon strap? Or will this one not be a problem

Reasons why to choose Canon over Nikon or vice versa?

I'm confused between Canon 550d and Nikon d5100. They both are almost similar and in the same budget line
- secondly is it true that canon DSLR produces more accurate color reproduction and also that Canon lenses are cheaper than Nikon?

Added (1). I'm not asking which is better. I just want to know why you as a fellow DSLR user choose that certain brand?

Miniature effect Nikon d3100?

I just got a Nikon d3100 and am interested in the miniature effect but I need some tips. For one thing, when I try to apply it to a pic I can only do it on a select portion of the pic. Is there a way to widen the box and select more at a time or can I save it then go back and add it again later or whatever? I need tips on how to use this effect please and thank you!

I'm hoping to upgrade my lens next year as i only have the 35 mm prime lens f/1.4, and the kit lens.
I have the Nikon D60.
I guess my main question would be, can i actually be a decent photographer with this equipment or not until i upgrade? I feel very limited by my camera and lens but at this time i can't afford to upgrade, so currently my photography is still a hobby and not a business.

Added (1). I feel limited because the pictures do not come out how i see them in my head. I want more isolation of subjects (depth of field) in my portraits, also they are not as sharp and appear distorted with this lens.

Added (2). Correction it is the 35mm f/1.8

Nikon D40 Shutter Error?

My Nikon D40 keeps on showing the Shutter Error, and it's basically that the shutter is stuck facing up the way. It's not returned to its position.

I've sent it away to be repaired and it was sorted for a while, then it reoccurred so I fixed it at home and it was fine, but now its happened again.

I live in Scotland so obviously it's a fairly cold place at this time of year, I went out today and it happened.

Can anyone explain why? And if there's any way to stop this from happening. Also does the freezing cold weather contribute towards it.

How to get Nikon D5100 RAW files to open in Photoshop?

I had a Nikon D40 camera and the. NEF files opened fine in my Photoshop CS5. I just got a Nikon D5100 and its RAW files are also the. NEF extension, but they won't open in Photoshop CS5 for some reason. When I try to open them in Photoshop it comes up with a message "Could not complete your request because the file appears to be from a camera model which is not supported by the installed version of Camera Raw." Can I download something from Adobe or Nikon that will let me open the D5100. NEF files in Photoshop?

Will the NIKON 50mm 1.8D work on my camera?

I know that this is a D lens. I currently have the D3100.It doesn't have a focusing motor in it so I guess you will need to manually focus it.Am I correct, I'm not sure. Will it actually work on my camera and take pictures.

But what if when i'm using my second memory card, i deleted some pictures off from my first memorycard and my second memory card gets full? Will the dslr switch back to the first memory card?
