Reasons why to choose Canon over Nikon or vice versa?

I'm confused between Canon 550d and Nikon d5100. They both are almost similar and in the same budget line
- secondly is it true that canon DSLR produces more accurate color reproduction and also that Canon lenses are cheaper than Nikon?

Added (1). I'm not asking which is better. I just want to know why you as a fellow DSLR user choose that certain brand?

My Canon camera is wonderful! When I had my Nikon it would run through batteries so fast, it seemed like every time I turned it on it needed new batteries. Get the Canon!

Think for a bit. If I say Canon is better and someone says Nikon… Who is correct? The one with more best answers, or none of us? There's no better… Otherwise no one would even be using Canon/Nikon when their competitor had the same price.

Where did you hear such nonsense? Some lenses are, and some aren't cheaper. No brand makes nicer colors, and you can also adjust that in the camera. Seems like most people today don't really respect all the things we have, but keep on comparing things (not saying you do).

I'd go with the 550D because it's the same as 600D which competes with D5100, just has no articulating screen.

The main difference between the two brands is the ergonomics of the body. Other than that, there's no "better". I prefer Nikon bodies for the way they feel in my hands, and I hate Canon Rebel bodies for the same reason. I use a Canon 7D, which is much more to my liking for handling. I also use a Fuji S5pro, which is based on the Nikon D200, along with a Nikon D70s, and a Sony A300. All have better ergonomics for me than any of the current Canon Rebel line.

color accuracy is not an issue, as that is the responsibility of the photographer. All DSLR cameras allow you to set up the color rendition to your liking. Canon Rebel bodies come out of the box set to make the colors "pop", Nikon leaves there neutral. You can adjust either to look just like the other.

Camera lenses range from dirt cheap to more than a small car, from both makers. Lens selection depends on both your needs, and your budget. They both have a full line of lenses in cheap, mid-range, and expensive.
