Can you turn a dslr on without a lens attached?

Or will it damage something?
I will be getting the actual Nikon D5000 body before the lens arrives and I'd like to be able to get acquainted with how everything is set up.

Would Nikkor 55-200 mm VR lens work with Nikon D3100?

Lens is AF-S DX VR Zoom-NIKKOR 55-200mm f/4-5.6G IF-ED
I have heard that all DX lens are compatible with DX series DSLRs. But D3100 is not shown on 'related product' section on its site.

Why are my pics fuzzy when i turn flash off on Nikon D40?

I'm using a Nikon D40, when the autoflash is on, the pics are crystal clear, when i turn the flash off for a more natural shot the picture is always fuzzy regardless of how still i hold the camera. Any ideas, I'm really a novice here so I literally have no idea about DSLR's and what they can do, this camera was kind of inherited.

DSLR setting for upcoming auto show?

I just bought my first DSLR camera. It's a Nikon D3000 and its perfect for me bc I'm new to the dslr world still. The camera comes with a kit lens 18mm-55mm. I know that the lens is very basic but I can't change it before the upcoming auto show.
What settings on my camera are preferable for an auto show? Keep in mind that I prefer shooting in Aperture priority mode. I tried the camera in low light and indoor conditions and most pictures are quite blurry.
Please help me set my camera so I can get best results of that lens.
Thanks in advance!

Added (1). Despite some people NOT giving me any advice and saying I have to read the manual I would still appreciate those of you that can actually give me a legit technical advice and not respond with a "wise" comment. I'm sure you were new to cameras yourself once

My flash only works when I'm shooting in auto mode. Why is this?

I have a Nikon D5100 & Bower SFD926N Digital Shoe Mount Flash. I'm trying to teach myself photography & get out the auto mode of shooting. However the minute I switch my camera to Manual mode or Aperture, shutter. My flash stops working. Does this mean I need a Nikon flash instead? And if so I'm looking at either the sb 600 or 700, but the 600 seems more in my price range.

I do all types of pictures with my camera from indoor with a backdrop, outdoor portraits & events with low light.

Appreciate any advice, thanks!

Battery or Camera causing the problem?

Wondering if anyone could help me.
I have a Nikon d40 dslr, I haven't used it in the last few days due to being busy with other things. I remember that I had just under half a battery left, I tried turning it on today and there's no light or anything.
I'm needing to get a new battery charger as mine is needing replacing as it isn't charging, I plugged my camera into my laptop tried turning it on again.nothing… I don't know why I even assumed plugging it into my laptop was going to do anything.
But usually when I barely have any battery left, it won't let me take pictures but let me view. So I'm not too sure if perhaps my camera is needing looking at or if it could possibly be my batteries?
